I am always amazed by how quickly a situation such as this can cause countless cops to be standing around for hours on end; most of them doing nothing whatsover at the site (besides standing around shooting the sh#t with each other).
Normally, if you need a single cop to respond to something, you either wait for hours or you get told that the PD is too short staffed to send anyone over. And, if you and your neighbors enform the police that there is active drug dealing going on from a residence pretty much 24/7; you get told that due to manpower shortages, no one at the PD, do not plan on anyone doing a damn thing.
But, somehow in a case such as this, the PD can quickly and easily have 6 or more cops there in a blink of an eye; most of who will be there for hours doing nothing at all.
Between the typical antics described above, and all those paid days off they all get so that they can work endless lucrative police details, there is no time left for them to be doing what they should be doing.
The cops tell you over and over again that every last one of them is risking his or her life every single day; but in Fitchburg most of the time they are hanging around at a site such as this, or an auto accident, mostly doing nothing; or we see them chatting to City Workers, Phone Line Workers, Electrical Workers and Gas Company Workers at a paid detail; doing nothing.
I tell you; the whole thing defies logic!

Unbelievable that no one was killed. Thank God no one was harmed. It is odd that the place didn't have any gas service and then to blast the way it did without any smell of gas???
My house rocked on Cedar street.I can only imagine how bad it was closer to the blast. Something was wrong here as itall just makes no sense at all.
The owner had his truck running out front. how he escaped any harm is just a miracle. And old pipe reads of a major lawsuit and all the claims from the surrounding houses.
Everyone needs to count their blessings!

Does everything have to be about lawsuits???
Also, funny how the headline reads "Blast levels Fitchburg building", but from what I can see, it seems to be still standing!
Sure, damaged pretty badly, but certainly not levelled!

This destruction was caused by a test of a drone firing a precision guided bomb.

Maybe a cellphone rang on a table causing the spark to cause the blast. If so then Thank God someone left their cellphone behind and then went across the street to use a phone to ring it in order to find it.
How odd of an explosion, huh?? What is a pipe doing leaking gas into a building that doesn't have gas service?? I still do not understand it.
How in the world can a blast push down a brick wall on the other side of the building and not harm a human? This is a miracle all around!! God was protecting that guy!
Unitil and or the city will be found liable. A unused gas pipe emmitting gas into a building and no one notices? Maybe it was another source?? Maybe a terrorist was building a bomb and it went off behind the building a no one noticed him there?
To be honest their was a massive smell of gas near 134 highland ave. This gas blew over to Cedar st. Gas is very dangerous and I think there are more leaks in the local area.

The one time I went to that store the guy was a dick so I guess karma is a bitch....glad he's not hurt but that's what you get for being a dick.

Cops at a building that blew up. How horrific, what's next?? Basketball players at a basketball game! Someone should investigate...oh wait that would involve police dipwad.

Gas leaking from a line in the street will follow and enter the sewage and water service lines from the street into the building. This is nothing new. Public safety routinely responds to odors of gas in residential homes and businesses that do not have a gas service because of this. Gas can accumulate in a closed area of a building without the occupant knowing about it. Mercaptane is added to natural gas because natural gas is odorless. Mercaptane is the rotten egg smell where there is natural gas.
Since no one was injured there is no lawsuit. The owner's of the buildings have mandatory insurance that will cover them so they cannot have a lawsuit against anyone for damages. If there were tenants that did not have apartment insurance they are out of luck.

It goes deeper than just cops, I had to buy perfume at Macy's and they hired all these extra people who just yap. Then when I went to the market to buy potatoe chips the kid working the isle was like 'sorry dude I just stocked it'. Someone [YOU] has to put a stop to this. You are a crime fighter!

Sh#t for Brains,
My point is that most of the time, you cannot get a single cop to respond to anything. And, the typical defense from the PD is that they are too understaffed to be able to respond. But, as we can all see here; the PD can quickly muster up a half dozen cops or more, in the blink of an eye; who will be standing around for hours on end; basically doing nothing whatsoever.
In the good old days, the Taxpaying Public would see cops at a site such as this quickly directing traffic and making an honest attempt to keep traffic moving as much as possible. These days, all the Taxpaying Public sees is the disappointment of massive traffic jams that go totally ignored by the cops; as the cops all burn up valuable police time doing nothing beyond hanging around at the site shooting the sh#t with each other.
Besides that, it is not like the half dozen cops who burned up countless hours at this site basically doing nothing, would have all been proactively fighting crime if this blast had not happened. More likely than not, they would have all been laying low somewhere; hoping to to do as little police work as possible before they finished their shift.
Back to you, Sh#t for Brains....

So the cops no matter what happens will always be critized. If they didn't show up at all to the explosion they would be scrutinized anyways. If a motorist cannot figure out that the street has been blocked for a reason and they should turn around maybe they shouldn't be driving at all. Again stupid people, stupid drivers.

So YOU sat for countless hours doing nothing but watching every move the police made at the scene? Sounds like YOUR time would have been better spent looking for a job so you have a RIGHT to complain where taxpayers dollars are going.
Shouldn't you be busy spewing your waste on the LA forum, there's a rogue cop out there killing people.
#13 Feb 8, 2013
Thanks for bringing up that rogue cop out in LA. I heard on last night's news that 10,000 lawmen are currently looking for this nutjob ex cop. And, the cops who are looking for him apparently opened fire on a vehicle that looked just like the ex cop's; but it wasn't the ex cop's vehicle. Apparently, an innocent man and woman were in the vehicle when the misguided lawmen blasted the living hell out of their vehicle.
It kind of reminded me of that dimwitted cop who started shooting pepper spray into a crowd of people in Boston, killing an innocent Victoria Snellgrove a few years back....cop's losing their cool and their ability to act rationally when the public really needs them.
Hey, isn't this the second heavily armed ex cop who wigged out recently? Didn't we all just hear the story of an ex Bridgewater Mass cop, who legally owned 40 guns (give or take a few) and then had a mental breakdown resulting in him being fired upon as he drove straight towards the Mass State Police?
Its looking like the ex cop nutjobs are even more dangerous than your plain old, run of the mill nutjob these days....

We get it you hate cops. What about reporters who stand in a snow storm and get paid good money to tell you it's snowing?
