I am 63 years old and almost in tears. Why do you ask? A very dear place in my heart was started to be demolished at 1:30 PM on February 25, 2013. Even though it's sad to have seen its demise over the years there is so much rich history to be talked about with this landmark. I have four brothers and sisters who were raised at 10616 Glen Gary Rd. If my mom and dad were here today n I'm sure they could add to this discussion and I know my brothers and sisters here can. I've asked my sister Kathy (Cardinal of St. Peter's) to look to the family photos and see if we had any pictures that included the big sign at the entrance to the drugstore are any other pictures that could be used in an article. To hear the comments of yesterday and today concerning it being abandoned and being an eyesore really hurt that much more knowing the vibrancy that once enveloped Glasgow Village shopping center. It did not make any difference as to what store you visited all of them had great memories. I even spent a couple years working on Saturdays at the Glasgow Village hardware store. Mr. Weiss you will remember use always say in his groveling voice "hello neighbor". Do you remember Miss Calcagno of Todd's bakery, Mr. and Mrs. Herzog of Bonnie Boys, Dr. Moscow, Mr. Nagel of the Ben Franklin store?

I left town for several years and came back in 1989 and in 1995 I actually lived in the house at 10617 Glen Gary. I remember one day going down to the shopping center in seeing Joe. I don't know how old Joe was but I can remember even when I was in my youth that Joe always kept the sidewalks around the shopping center swept and trash picked up and there he was in 1995 still doing it. Well I don't want to write a book tonight but there are sold many many many memories. Does anybody remember the Yoko contest friend by the Duncan company in front of the Ben Franklin 5 10?

Well the County just said they are saving the sign because the folks who used to live there said it was a landmark. Hopefully someone puts it to good use. I remember many a Cusumano's pizza!

I grew up in Glasgow Village. I would buy my model cars and Topps baseball cards from that drug store. In high school we ate plenty of pizzas from Cusumano's. I remember the Grand Opening of the IGA grocery store. We bought jeans from Glik's, and hockey sticks from the Ace Hardware store. Back behind the shopping center was a great little hill that we would jump over with our bikes. Or how about that little alleyway between the shopping mall and IGA where all of the tough guys would hang out. how about the little sandwich shop on the far side. Great memories...

I would like to know what sauce Bonnie Boys used on their hamburgers, I remember the taste to this day and taking dance lessons at Glascow Village. The Drug Store was where I bought my first Barbie and then they had a Barbie trade in where you took your old Barbie and could trade up for a newer one at the same drug store in 1960's. I just would like to know the sauce of the Burger to bring back the memories.

Is it because they're black or is it because they're poor?

The place had most likely been going down for years. No local jobs - not that there ever really were - and little incentive for anyone to create any. Bet you have a lot of Section 8ers there. That doesn't help either.

Plus, no incorperation. You get things thrust upon you.
