Controversial speed cameras up along north St. Louis County road
In front of Charlie Chicken in Country Club Hills there's a utility box that stands about three-feet tall and hidden inside is a camera pointed directly at traffic on W. Florissant.

We have visited friends in the St. Louis area for 19 years and made the mistake of driving through Country Club Hills, MO a couple of weeks ago while on vacation. I haven't recieved a speeding ticket in 42 years. Last Friday we got a welcome from the local police for $130 plus $3.99 to process the ticket.
Now we normally visited St. Louis twice a year and probably spent over $4,000 a year. Guess where we won't be visiting and who lost tourist dollars. Hope the $133.99 is worth it. I noticed this area of the country has gone crazy with these cameras to fill their budget.
We will stay in Illinois and come across the Alton bridge, but that's as far as I need to see this town.

If you don't know how to drive the speed limit, and you are so arrogant as to brag about the amount of your "tourist dollars," just stay away. We're better off without you.

I personal have no problem finding family oriented and plenty to do in Illinois without crossing into Missouri. I agree that these cameras are getting out of control and not appropriate. Have an officer write me a ticket I will be happy to pay. At least that officer has a job then, not a machine.

They have speed cameras in Illinois also. If you speed they will get you eventually.
I say the more automated the better. Leave the cops to chase down criminals and take care of accidents.
Go into any government office, and I mean any, and its full of paper pushers and no customer service. There is no need for this. It is a wasteful expense and is inefficient. Plus, for every worker, you get 20 or 30 years of "work" and have to pay 20 or 30 years of pension. Its not a good deal for taxpayers at all.
Replace them with computers and if you can't eliminate the human content, outsource it to India--there is no reason not to. Taxpayers get cheaper, 24 hour services, and no pension legacy. Just on the federal level, billions could be saved every year.
