I found the Wichita article very interesting. My hat is off to Kyanne Phillips for pushing getting a audit. As bookkeeper of her fathers store, Smithy's. I am sure they have dealt with dishonest clerk's at the cash register finding ways to pocket money and take food and beer out of the store. As for Marge Laverty getting her 15 minutes of fame here, "First dog that barks, smells it's own bone" Her husband, who died from a accident in 1996, was banned from Wilson County for crooked dealings. As for Laura driving her corvette, her husband Stan, had that car for years, before they got married in early 1980's, so that car is no part of this issue. I do see the last few ex-mayor's of Thayer have not commented on the situation, unless it was done in court.

I find it amazing that you can get state funding, issue bonds, state licensing, or traffic fines, etc and NOT be required to have an audit on an annual basis, let alone 10-11 years. So a clerk in a town of 500 +/- is the only one that signs checks or shows up to meetings. How could a mayor, or treasurer NOT know if there was books that werent adding up. Especially if they claim over 100 grand. Maybe I watch to much dateline but come on man! One person can hoodwink a town with checks and balances in place- Really?

Marge Laverty was NEVER married to Bill Taylor, they just lived together.

Why if you own a business would you pay your water bill in cash anyway can't that be used as a tax write off and if you did pay cash get a receipt. That's just common sense
