Not bad for a city that cried to get federal funding because they are poverty stricken.

$650,000 a bus? Wow! I use public transit all the time, but that seems outlandish. I also feel like we get screwed by Metro because we pay for them and Torrance Transit both, yet there's still no evening service, holidays are thin, and some areas get no buses or weird, time-consuming connections.

We need to drop 1/4 of TT buses and get more Metro here, especially a real train, not that cr*ppy Silver Line. And it needs to run to 1 or 2 am. Torrance got hosed when the 444 became the 344. The 445 needs to run much later too.

We're a huge residential area in the 2nd largest city in the US, not some distant suburb that rolls up the sidewalk at sundown. It would be nice if we started creating civic systems appropriate to that reality.

I'm assuming that we get to ride for free since we are paying for the stimulus and paying it back for many years to come - consider it interest on the loan.

Since global warming/climate change is a total scam. I'm wondering, what is the maintenance costs and operating costs of the new buses? I will bet the cost per mile of diesel buses and service life is cheaper and more reliable. The 'green' pursuit is a fools pursuit and will cost the City more $$ per mile. Wake up folks, the Planet can, and does, take care of itself. Humans (liberal enviro-kooks) think they can save the Planet by taxing and controlling YOU..

you global warming believers should study up on the Chicago Climate Exchange, Franklin Raine's purchase of the big board technology for cap and trade (many years ago), the Generation London based company where Al Gore is a leader, and all the other crooks who are simply out to become rich and oh, by the way, FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM the USA - which basically means to throw the constitution by the wayside, since in their simple minds, it is way outdated.

Wonder why the still-dirty hybrids instead of clean-burning (and abundantly available from the USA) natural gas vehicles....?

And the article takes pains to note that the buses were purchased from a Canadian company, although built in the US. Oh, and it was a bulk deal with other transit districts, so don't even think about blaming the COT

COT buys their police vehicles outside of the COT also (almost positive)

How about adding more bus routes?

They are not going to add more bus routes as they don't have enough bus drivers to drive more routes. My driver told me that they keep firing them and that no bus drivers want to work in Torrance. The drivers are now being forced to work lots of overtime and they are tired. That is not safe if you ask me. No one wants to ride on a bus (or drive near a bus) with a overworked, under appreciated, tired driver.
And what is this that the manager said that torrance is ahead because they got these busses first? I see these kinds of busses at every other system I ride so where has she been hiding her head? in the sand? There are plenty of electric gas busses on the streets everywhere. My question is why did it take so long to get these new busses when everyone else already has them? And why can't torrance hire and keep drivers?

Why let Americans build thing, when we can buy them from our "friends"? Just look how friendly our Canadians are, they even sent us our Hahns and Arnie. And also took over at Santa Anita.

Daimler-Benz took care of our truck-building business.

And everyone was happy. No wonder they "lost" the war.
Mercedes-Benz is sitting safely in Carson.

And we can't wait to get our hands on a new BMW.

Why buy new buses and fire teachers? Maybe in ten years these green buses will have saved enough money to hire 1 or 2 teachers back out of the 32 that are getting fired by TUSD this year.

Since global warming/climate change is totally real, I'm wondering, what are the maintenance costs and operating costs of the new buses? The cost per mile of diesel buses and service life might be cheaper and more reliable, it might not. They might be more or less polluting. I would like to see the scientific facts. Wake up folks, the planet can, and does, take care of itself except when rich humans (i.e. corporations run by fatcat white guys) rape our landscape for money and then get their lemmings (teabag swallowing-kooks) to march around complaining whenever scientific facts prove that their previously decided and prejudiced world view is wrong.

You obviously live in a small corner of your mind. When you wake up, go outside, look at the Sun, the Oceans and try to imagine how really big the Planet is. Have you checked the rising sea levels lately? Since you embrace algore, I'll bet you believe rising sea levels only happen in certain areas of the World Oceans. I hope you don't work for one of those greedy Corporations, wish I did. They pay taxes and employ millions of people who might not agree with you. Even a left wing kook, such as yourself, could do some simple web searches and find outthe cost of 'green' vs the cost of 'real science'. Hey! If your happy, I'm happy.

Damn you have this dialed in! Torrance is late in the game to get these new buses these are like 3rd generation Flyer buses. I heard one driver say they worked 40 hours Ot in one week because they are so short!!! The streets are not safe under this IDIOT manager!!

It seems to be waste, but some people get rich on such deals.
