I have read both sides of the Eisen story, and I don't know what the truth is. What I do know is that he was obviously outspent by interests who wanted him recalled. Does that make it right? I don't know. I believe the real failure in this issue lies with our local papers. Newspapers should have thoroughly vetted this story, tested both sides and reported objectively. Voters should not have to rely on slogans plastered on bumper stickers or stuck in people's lawns to make their decisions. The above article accuses Eisen of "controversial behavior." What behavior? He opposed Proposition BB. Is that what the DailyBreeze means by controversial? His opponents accused him of "inability to work with fellow Board members" and "violating procedures involving confidentiality of board business." But don't we want elected officials to be true to their consciences rather than to go along to get along? And don't we want more, not less transparency from our officials? These aren't guarded military secrets. A school board shouldn't have information that threatens national security. They say he "lied to the public about a vote that was videotaped." Who videotaped the vote? You don't say, and I don't know. It would have been nice to see a transcript in the paper.
I have lived here all my life. I attended Pacific School, Center School and Mira Costa. I had two children go through the public schools here. As a taxpayer I have watched the schools spare no effort or expense at election time in order to sway voters. Usually to get more money. I have seen the schools send political materials home with students, which is probably unconstitutional. No one complains. Again, I don't know the truth of the Eisen story. But it can't be that hard for a reporter to ascertain. Isn't that the job of a free press? I'd still like to know. I would be disappointed to learn that our school board punishes opposing views. Especially if the opposition is only trying to speak out for fiscal responsibility.

"Who videotaped the vote?" Time Warner cable. The local cable TV company broadcasts live and records meetings on local access. If you've never watched MBUSD board meetings before, you can watch tonight's meeting that starts at 6:30pm live. See for yourself, what we have been seeing for the last three years: Eisen arrives late, unprepared, often sleeping thru meetings. He yells at fellow board members or at speakers during public commentary, calling them liars. He spews out unfounded facts and claims he never voted on or discussed issues, which are clearly part of the meeting minutes and public record.

That is the most likely scenario! MB residents seemt o think they live on some magical island and are not part of the rest of the South Bay area. MB has always had that stuck up reputation, and I'm sure anyone being outspoken against anything they want was too much for them to handle.

Why don't you people keep your opinions to yourself until you KNOW the facts. Mr. Eisen is being charged with fraud and perjury and has been evicted from his home for these acts. He simply is not a person of good character. It has nothing to do with the residents of MB...it is simply common sense. When you get only 15 - 20% of the voting population out for most elections, someone always has a chance of "lucking" into a vacant seat. Though most MB residents are "well to do", they are smart enough to realize he had to go for the good of their children. Ms. Fahey will be an excellent replacement.

This story is as old as the hills :"Fire and brimstone preacher found in hotel room with live boy and dead goat." Mr Moral Virtue turns out to be a scumbag.
The same will happen with the Hermosa Taliban.

Hey, Bill Stenton ...
Despite your claim of having "read both sides of the Eisen story", you display incredible ignorance of the facts that have been publicly and prominently marched out for well over a year now. You castigate the press, and I agree that there could have been better investigative coverage by The Beach Reporter and The Daily Breeze ... but had you even read the detailed series of stories in the Easy Reader (you know, the ones in the link that someone immediately sent you to, above)? Did you even go to www.RecallBillEisen.com and follow any of the links to a myriad of third party newspaper stories on Eisen's lifetime of misdeeds and incredibly unscrupulous character? Presumably not, or you certainly wouldn't be depicting Eisen following his conscience as a good thing.
It seems some folks just need to cling on to their blind confidence in a perceived messiah, even if that messiah is openly dressed as Satan himself.
Incredible that someone who touts their family's longevity in the community can be so uninformed as to an equally long standing village idiot of the highest magnitude.
The moral of the Eisen story is that voters need to make informed decisions. The information is always out there; sometimes it just takes a little more effort to find than other times. Bill Stenton, clearly you put forth absolutely zero effort on this one, as the facts were forcibly placed in your lap and you still chose to ignore them.

I am not an apologist for Mr. Eisen, And, obviously, since I didn't post my comments till after the election, I wasn't trying to influence the vote. I am surprised by the lack of civility in the above comments. Calling someone a "village idiot" and accusing them of "clinging" to a "perceived messiah" who is actually "Satan himself" is a fairly harsh, if somewhat amusing response to my post. I can see why some people don't include their names. I guess it makes it easier to insult people. I'm new at this. I read the one article posted above, and while it does call Mr. Eisen's character into question, it says nothing about his performance on the school board. Better are some of the articles listed at the recallbilleisen.com website. Which I have since read. My apologies to Ms. Sharp, Mr. Brown, Mr. Maddaus and Nguyen Huy Vu, all of whom wrote informative articles on the subject. I meant no disrespect with my initial post. It's unfortunate that the BB debate was clouded with the issue of the recall. And I wonder whether there are now any dissenting voices on the MB school board. Please, before anyone hurls more insults, it is simply an honest question.

1) So tell us this, Bill -- how exactly do you make your voting decisions if, despite your original claim, you actually read up on the issues and candidates *after* the election?

2) Nice try, but disrepect is EXACTLY what you meant with your initial post -- you were just proven dead wrong and are now backpedaling.(Thus your apologies to the local beat reporters you disrespected by speaking out so unknowingly.)

3) Not clear why you think BB was clouded by the recall. BB was clouded by Eisen's misrepresentations (e.g., his opposition mailings from his multiple, illegal phantom organizations)... but the recall was a distinctly separate matter.

4) Not clear why you are wondering about "whether there are now any dissenting voices on the school board". If the insinuation is that Eisen was merely a dissenting voice and that's why he was recalled, you still don't get it and need to continue playing catch up with the recall issue that your community has already decided.

The primary lesson to be learned from the Eisen recall is that we must all be informed voters. Many, many attentive voters in 2005 knew Eisen was trouble with a capital 'T', yet he still managed to barely slip in. Please take this lesson to heart, Bill Stenton.(Hint: There will be a MB City Council election on March 3, 2009.*Please* don't repeat your errors by starting to study for this one on March 4!)

Joyce Fahey is now embroiled in a fracking oil controversy in Hermosa Beach. E&B Oil Company has bought Fahey to lobby residents in what will become a South Bay environmental oil disaster. Yet another excercise of poor judgement!
