The class action lawsuit doesn't help those Toyota owners who have had sludge build up in a model and/or model year not covered in Toyota's Customer Support Program for Engine Oil Gelation. It doesn't help those who have long ago traded in their vehicles when sludge occurred. It doesn't protect those Toyota owners whose engines have thrown rods through the engine block for no apparent reason. It doesn't help those owners whose engines have spontaneously erupted in fire on the road. No wonder Toyota is quietly settling this engine oil sludge lawsuit. Toyota knows that the matter goes much deeper, according to many Toyota owners. No doubt, it wants to limit is liability. Please sign the Toyota Owners Unite for Resolution online petition if you are not satisfied with this lawsuit or Toyota's handling of this matter. YOu can find the petition at petitiononline.com/TMC2003/petition.html . Network with other Toyota owners for more discussion online.

I received the class action notice. it said "..if you have blue smoke..." I did, and I had to pay $178 to smithtown toyota to find out my car didn't have sludge. It has some other problem they weren't able to identify. I feel scammed for sure.

When my engine threw a rod, the mechanic said he never saw anything like that before, we couldn't find another engine anywhere ! I currently have a rebuild engine that doesn't sound too good. Thanks for your statement. I got something in the mail about a lawsuit, but can't find it now.... I'm trying to find out who could help me. Toyota messed up BIG TIME, I suffer for it. |

Is there a lawsuit that's going on? It sounds as if it's all settled now...

My 2001 Corolla had the engine rebuilt @ 79,000 most unfortunate to find out it was not covered, only came to find out about the settlement when I recevied the notice for the 1998 v6 Camary I traded in 2001. Anyone aware of a seperate action for Corolla owners. I had gelling, sludge at my first oil change. Same symptoms lea to the engine breakdown and rebuild. Maybe they sold 3.5 million Corollas during the same time frame?

Toyota recalls 533,000 trucks, SUVs
Sharon Terlep / The Detroit News Advertisement Get free headlines by e-mail NEW! Get text alerts on your cell phone Toyota recall Vehicles: Certain 2004-2007 Sequoia SUVs and 2004-2006 Tundra pickups Problem: Ball joint problem may be causing steering, noise problems Call Source: Toyota Motor Co. Printer friendly version Comment on this story Send this story to a friend Get Home Delivery Toyota Motor Co. on Thursday launched a recall of 533,000 trucks and SUVs over possible steering and suspension problems. The recall came a week after Toyota reached a settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed over sludge that was apparently building in the engines of millions of vehicles, requiring the engine to be replaced or repaired. As many as 3 million to 4 million vehicles are believed to be involved. The latest recall includes certain 2004-2007 model year Sequoia full-size sport utility vehicles and 2004-2006 Tundra pickups sold in the United States. A ball joint in the front suspension may be wearing excessively, causing undue noise and making the vehicles difficult to steer. Toyota spokesman Bill Kwong said the defect may be the cause of 11 accidents resulting in six injuries. Toyota, which is adding production capacity faster than any automaker in North America, faced nagging questions about its quality after 2.2 million recalls in 2005. But the world's No. 2 automaker managed to reduce recalls by about two-thirds in 2006 and continues to lead the industry in most quality surveys. Safety recalls declined dramatically industrywide in 2006. An estimated 10.8 million vehicles were recalled last year, compared with 17.9 million cars and trucks recalled in 2005 and well below the record-breaking 30.8 million recalls in 2004, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data. General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. posted improvements last year, while DaimlerChrysler AG saw its recalls more than double to 2.4 million vehicles in 2006. While not good news for the automaker, the recall likely won't seriously dent Toyota's solid reputation for quality vehicles, said brand analyst Erich Merkle of IRN Inc. in Grand Rapids. "They are fallible," he said. "I don't think this is going to hurt them, but they do have to circle back around and hone in on quality." Merkle said Toyota made a good decision in delaying the start of production for the new Tundras being built at a recently opened $1.28 billion auto plant in Texas. Toyota initiated Thursday's recall and will notify owners of the involved vehicles in mid-February. The company will replace the left and right front suspension lower ball joint at no cost. To Charlene Blake..........I empathize with those who have experienced sludge through no fault of their own, whether it be Toyota, Chrysler, Saab, BMW, Mercedes and other makes who have in fact had far more sludge reports than Toyota. Why you have singled out Toyota as the single villain in an issue which affects virtually all manufacturers is bizarre. Not only have you chosen Toyota as your prime target for "vengeance", but you distort facts, make wild amd unsupported claims, misrepresent, and last but not least you insist that EVERY story about sludge is Toyota's fault. You must be blind to the opportunism you indulge in by accepting literally every tale of woe as gospel without the slightest attempt at verification. Your petition is an example of the blatently dishonest way you present your case. None of the names there are checked, and most are very clearly being planted to plump up the stats by cut pasting old history, and repeating many stories from old websites. Not only that but you have blanked out more than half the names in your work...WHY?? Are you hiding something, perhaps the truth?? Charlene Blake, you are a fake and a blatant liar..probably on the payroll of some competitor. You are not credible in any way! |

Mr. Voulin, quite a bold, defamatory statement you made above! You know full well that I am not "working for a competitor." You also know that it is the voice of the Toyota sludge victim I represent! I do not support one make or another; I do support vehicle owners getting a safe, reliable vehicle that holds it resale value over time...remember, this is supposedly a consumer law!
The Truth About Toyota Engine Oil Sludge Toyota engine oil sludge affects more than the few models and model years covered in Toyota's "Customer Support Program for Engine Oil Gelation." Toyota indicates that 1997-2002 Sienna, Camry, Avalon, Celica, Lexus RX300, and Lexus ES300 are the ones that are sludge-prone. At the same time, it says that these vehicle owners are to blame for the sludge condition. Toyota doesn't include the earlier models or the later models, though. It also doesn't include the Corolla, RAV4, and 4Runner despite the fact that some of these owners are reporting sludge buildup and engine demise. The class action lawsuit covers all the models and model years included in the CSP, contrary to the poster's information above. I suppose that Toyota will use any loopholes it can to limit the relief for its valued customers. Many Toyota owners are reporting that Toyota has required far more engine oil change receipts than what it publicly has stated it would. According to owner accounts, owners continue to be treated poorly in Toyota's alleged effort to limit the number of vehicle owners who qualify under the CSP. In many cases engines are being cleaned when they need to be replaced. Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit doesn't help those with models not covered under the CSP. It doesn't help those who long ago traded their vehicles when sludge clogged their engines. It doesn't help those Toyota owners whose engines mysteriously threw rods through the engine block. It doesn't do anything for the Toyota owners whose engines spontaneously erupted in fire on the road for no apparent reason. No, there are many Toyota owners left out. Is Toyota really "listening" to online discussions/reports by its vehicle owners? If so, why isn't the petition being addressed? Why aren't these owners getting a fair resolution in their sludge or engine failure cases? We know that Toyota is tracking the owner postings. Interestingly enough, someone has been trying desperately to sabotage the Toyota owner petition. Who would care to go to this length to prevent Toyota owner organization? Who would want to end this petition? Hmmmm.... Charlene Blake cblake@erols.com Toyota Owners Unite for Resolution http://www.petitiononline.com/TMC2003/petitio... |

Don't worry...Mr. Voulin has quite an agenda of his own. Note his rebuttal post at http://public.findlaw.com/mboards/webx.html... @123.PAaBepUcXd7^2@.ef114da The idea that Toyota is somehow being victimized is purely ridiculous!! Haven't the Toyota sludge victims suffered enough? How much abuse do the Toyota owners have to withstand in the name of the bottom line?!? Toyota cares about its corporate well-being; the vehicle owners care about their own well-being. Who would have thought that the two would be at odds? What Toyota owners imagined being in the sludge predicament at under 100,000 miles (under 50,000 miles in many instances)? The Toyota engine sludge problem is not some HOAX as implied by a poster (Canadian, also!) similar to Mr. Voulin in 2001 on Edmund's Town Hall! It is a real problem that continues despite the limited SPA, CSP, and class action lawsuit. Apparently, the Toyota engine oil sludge problem has not been resolved! Just keep in mind, a good amount of engine problems are derived from oiling issues. Because of the useless mechanics we have at dealerships and shops, many of the problems are just grouped by them as sludge buildup. Heck, everytime I go to get my oil changed(only in winter months), the mechanic says I have sludge build-up and my bumper gasket needs replaced. And have you guys seen the price of bumper gaskets lately?
