`He'll come after me'

Jacquelyn Pick feared her husband, Steve. He abused crack cocaine and hallucinated about "magic people" recording him and using wires and string to move things around their house.

I wonder if Steve Pick was a crackhead when he met and married his wife? Anyone with those many tats and his reported 'oddball' behavior would have been a red flag to most young ladies!

What a tragedy though...the kids always end up paying for the mistakes their parents make!

RIP Tyler and Ms. Stern

Why did the officers not believe that Pick had not been served the restraining order? Was it a paperwork mix up, or a computer mix up or ???

He killed because he was on drugs. Bottom line. People who use drugs are dangerous and these things are going to happen. If you have a family member or friend on drugs, Do something about it before its too late.

Judge Slawson should know better. His high and mighty honor should ditch his feminist friends and treat dads with respect. You don't solve drug problems by taking a man's kids away from him. The kids were a good, centering influence on him.

I hope Judge Slawson is human enough to feel bad today, because that's how he makes dads feel everyday when he takes their kids away. Stop hurting dads and kids or take the "Slauson Exit"

Torrance PD did a great job of not escalating the problem. No one hurt on their watch. They see so much domestic violence everyday, but their hands are tied. Let the judge clean up the mess, count the bullets, and interview grief-stricken family and neighbors.

The reasons kids get taken away from dads (AND MOMS!) on drugs are simple. Drugs can make people unpredictable and violent (as seen in this story). Also, children may get into their drugs and overdose. Kids DO remember what happens when they are little, and can affect how they are as an adult. It doesn't mean they (the parents on drugs) are horrible people, it should be motivation for them to clean up their act and get their children back. I'm not saying all parents on drugs are going to do something like this, I'm only saying why a judge deciding custody would be concerned.

Wow, people still belive that just because someone has a bunch of tattoos there is something wrong with them. The drug abuse is one thing, but just because a guy has tattoos doesn't mean he is an addict or a drug user or a bad guy. Yeah this guy was but of the millions of people that have tatts, the majority are normal everyday people, not drug addicts with mental problems.

Torrance PD didn't do anything in this case but show up after everyone was dead. Doing a great job would have been arresting him for breaking the restraining order or at putting extra patrol on the area since they new a man with a restraining order was trying to get to his wife and kids.

And was a great reason for the Judge not to let the dad see his kids, it's called DRUGS. Daddy's a drug abuser but it's ok, he should still get to see his kids, we don't care if he's high and out of his head. They are his kids so he has a right to see them whenever he wants because it will keep him grounded and stop him from going crazy. Give me a break. Adults know the consequences for their actions, do drugs, there's a damn good chance you can say goodbye to the kids. The choice he made when he put the crack pipe to his lips and lit it.

As afriend of them both just so people know, Jacqui had tattoos as well, tattoos have nothing to do with what Steve did, he did an awful thing that no one can justify. It was the crack, not the tattoos

The sad truth, is, that some women feel they need to be with a man who gives them attention. It's called co-dependency. They suffer from low self-esteem, that any man who gives them attention they fall in love with. This loser should have been thoroughly investigated when he met his future wife. In fact, all women should investigate the backgrounds of any man that asks them out.
Speaking of tattoos, I see so many men with tons of tattos on their arms, legs, back, etc. Bottom line, they scare me. That is my opinion on them. If they want to express themselves, fine, this is America. I like my men with NO tattoos.

A tragedy happen... My heart and prayers go out to these people. It is terrible what drugs can do, to even the best of people... This should not be a post for venting your comments when they have nothing to do with this terrible situation. Give a little thought for the family and friends this has effected...

Nanny, Please don't play the victim. You and the judge use the kids as a weapon. What about mom's responsibility to keep drugs away from kids. What about mom's responsibility to take care of her husband? She went to court to get rid of him. Did she call any drug rehab counselors? Why are there no men's shelters in Torrance, San Pedro or the Beach cities? Feminist women and the judge blame everybody else and act like women are the only victims. Give up the idea of using family court to just "get rid of men". Solving hard social problems is hard work.

My heart goes out to Mrs. Pick and her daughter. Poor little thing is always going to wonder what happened to her older brother and that is hard to explain to a four year old. I hope and pray they get through this tough time and just know that you have the whole county of L.A. praying for you all. I know its easier said then done, but you know your son and mother are with God together comforting you during this difficult time. Please stay strong and be there for your daughter, you both need eachother.

Everyone out there, please dont attend the services for Steve, if he didnt care enough to not harm his own son, then he is not deserving to have any kind of service.

"Torrance police did not arrest Pick on Monday when he violated the order by showing up at the house. Crespin said officers did not believe Pick had been served and this was the first time he had been made aware of the restraining order". So Jacquelyn Pick word wasn't good enough for Torrance police? What morons!!! I hope she sues the crap out of the City and the Torrance Police for negligence!!!!

Hey, Bubbles.. There are more important things to worry about than tattoos. I enjoy walking by people like you. I have a ton and the last thing I want to do is harm someone.

Anyway... This incident was tragic and I believe the drugs are to blame... Crack is much more powerful than a tattoo needle. RIP Tyler and Janelle and I hope Nicole and Jacquelyn will be able to make peace with time and move on...

I don't agree with Bubbles. Just because someone has tattos does not make them a 'bad guy'. It was obviously the drugs and in my opinion a possible mental disorder. Also, the police should look into this guys drug supplier, he must have been doing some really bad stuff for him to act out like this. More people out there are getting these same drugs. SCARY.
May the Lord give this family strength and peace. God Bless.

Wow. Someone has some issues. Mom's responsibility to take care of her husband? How about Mom's responsibility not to watch someone kill themself (by drug abuse) in front of her children? Grow up, Sad Dad.

I watched the HERMOSA BEACH POLICE deliberately IGNORE TWO restraining orders against a violent husband. He was the friend of a City Councilman or Cop or something.

Restraining orders are a joke. The cops tell you to get one when they want to blow you off. The court hands them out like popcorn. When it comes time to enforce one, the cops can't find it, they can't read it, and my all time favorite: the Judge wrote it wrong!

The cops are a bunch of lazy slobs who do as little as possible to collect their inflated salaries. Once in a while, one does something good, but for every good one, there is at least one bad one. And with the civil service and union rules, the bad ones can't be fired until they get caught committing a crime.(And remember, their buddies doing the IA will NEVER catch them, unless the problem is too big to hide.)

Steve Pick was a person, a friend to many (myself included) there is no amount of explaining why this evil occured but it is more than meets the eye. addiction and mental illness, mental illness coming first had a lot to do with this. The Steve I knew was a loving and sensitive person. hating him will not change what has happened. I hate what he did but I cannot hate the person I knew. I am devestated for his wife and daughter, his parents and siblings and his in laws. but to blame his wife, to make judgements based on how he looks in photos, to assume you know the whole story by how it ended is pretty high and mighty. if hating consoles you, so be it. but right now, the family of all the victims need love and support. there is no more room for hate and judgement. and as grateful as I am for this blog, I am astounded at the number of people who are quick to hand out hell as punishment. as if this hell is not enough. There are so many factors behind this and none have been fully covered. there is no excuse or reason good enough to condone the ending of two lives by murder, especially when the murderer is a parent. but until the law and society recognize that mental illness is a very real disease and that addiction is very closelty tied to it (self medicating) no one wins. Steve needed help. His family did all he could. but the hospitals didn't hold him, a restraining order did not stop him and now there is trajedy. Stop saying things about his wife, my god, she lost her son and mother. how dare you? start praying, if you pray and give thanks that you do not have to deal with being mentally ill. and dont think mental illness is some excuse for this. mental illness being untreated is the cause of this. Steve's sickness was real, his addiction added to fuel to the fire. some people do not have the reasoning to know right and wrong. they need to be in hospitals or jails. my mother in law was stabbed to death by a sober and "normal" person in a jealous rage. Life is full of trajedy and condemn me if you will, but I knew Steve and I hate to hell what he did but I hope to God him and his child and mother in law are at peace. and I will forever pray for his wife and daughter. They deserve nothing but support, not just speeches about being codependent, etc. If she were codependent she would have never got the restraining order to begin with. she is a victim here. stop the hate talk, lend some support to these families. Let God or whomever you pray to lend his judgement or revenge.
