I was wondering that myself. I once saw a Jetta, driven by a teenager, that was moving so fast it went airborne and hit on of the trees in the center. Mangles the car and killed the driver.

That is a really dangerous stretch of road though. That's why I always take Sepulveda to get to the hill anyway.

From the looks of things (car wrapped around the tree), speed probably was a factor. Sad.......... Be careful out there everybody. You don't really save that much time by driving like a bat out of he**, but you surely risk your life and those around you.

There are a lot of accidents there where Crenshaw curves. The trees save the people on the other side. There used to be many accidents where the cars would jump the center divider and cause more deaths.

it's dangerous because people are always speeding doing 60mph on that street. I always drive up and down that street and always watch my speed while other cars are flying right pass me. SPEED KILLS slow down everyone, life's too short to go out like that.

uhh.. 60 mph is hardly speeding, sure, the speed limit is about 45 on that stretch of road but if you can not control your vehicle at 60 then you have no business driving anyways. guaranteed this driver was going 80+

My prayers go out to his family. I only hope they didnt' find out about his passing on this website. The picture was posted at 5:00 pm when I called my husband to find out why the street was closed.

I can't remember the last time I saw Torrance Police enforce the speed limit on Crenshaw Blvd between 190th Street and Del Amo Blvd.
Over a dozen streets in Torrance had the speed limits increased this year because the vehicles were traveling faster than the posted speed limit per state law. If the speed limits were enforced by the police, the vehicles would not be speeding.

Yes, agreed 60 is really not that fast for a street that wide, but speed is NOT the only factor here, cars just don't jump into the median on their own! I wasn't there, don't know what happened, the driver could have been trying to avoid an animal or a person, but when people drive beyond their abilities or the abilities of their vehicles, that is when trouble happens. We should all be careful, but especially when you are not skilled enough to safely control your vehicle at speeds or when your vehicle is just not capable.

a Nissan exceding the speed limit. the flagship ride of the under-insured, non-licensed and drivers with limited and impaired driving abilities. as a rule of thumb, avoid ALL nissans.

idiot, probably racing someone or showing off, stupidity is fatal, this moron is the reason that auto rates in LA are sky high, even for safe drivers, thank God he didn't injure or kill anyone else, another example of Darwin's theory.

The police do enforce speed in that section of Crenshaw Blvd. I know, I got a ticket on a Sunday morning, no other cars, at 63 mph. When in town, I now do not speed there or on Maple just north of the courthouse, they ticket all day long there. Drive carefully.

A nice bone-grinder. I wonder if the Torrance Police know how to conduct a fatal traffic investigation. When was the last time TPD was doing speed enforcement in that area?

There's a stoplight there. He could have killed someone else so this was a good outcome.

He probably hit the railroad tracks at speed and got his car sideways.
