Six lousy months? And just how long will this child have to live with the memories and nightmares that this perv has no doubt caused?

The problem is the high school girls are not as innocent. Not even the middle school girls. I graduated 4 years ago and it only gets worse. It seems like this girl was in it consensually. I do agree that the teacher as an adult should have known better. He deserves more then 6 months but the girl better not be trying to sue the school because it was consensual.

Come on people. The girl was in a relationship with him. It's not like he forced himself on her. Besides, things are different today. A 16 year old is like a 21 year old sexually. He's a young guy, and she consented to the relationship, so, to me it's no harm, no foul. Trust me, she's not going to be traumatized, she's not going to need counsellings. I'm sure she has a fetish for older guys. It happens. For example, I like women with who smell like syrup. I know it sounds weird, but when we get romantic, I pour syrup all over them, and wipe it up with pancakes. I'm sure a lot of people do that. See, it's just a fetish.

This guy is now going to be a felon, with a sex predator record, and for what? He should do what I do, get them fake IDs. Face it, some of those high school girls are pretty hot. I think 15 should be the cutoff age. Anything younger then that, well, that's just not right. Unless their Russians, then game on.

Funny thing is that this EXACT same thing happened recently in my home town. The teacher got a BJ from a high school guy, apprently it happened several times.

Anyway, the whole city got in an uproar. He got 3 years I think and alot of folks that commented literally wanted his death. Not only that but they were talking as if the 15 year old guy was 6 and not 15.

After all, the laws people under 18 don't have the right to give consent.

I tell ya, 100 years ago, people would be laughing at us.

This is the second time he got caught with an underage girl, once in new york and once in califonia. And some are claiming consentual. I know some of you are just writting crap to get people worked up but for the other one or 2, do you know how stupid and immature high school girls are? And he was a TEACHER!!
You're right we should just let 16 & 17 year olds consent to doing whatever they want. They know what's best

Actually, you have it backwards. Today's abysmally immature girl-woman may be more eager to indulge in the mechanics of sex, but she knows nothing of the art. Apparently neither does this teacher. BJ, indeed. Well, he'll get some fine schoolin' in prison, but it won't be by the book.

That's funny. I don't know where you're from, or what teenage girls are like there, but I graduated from West High in 1986 (yes, I was there for the "Redodo" incident) and back then, a student who got involved with a teacher was referred to as "Going for an 'A'".

This happenned in New York---what do you expect???
Hey the Governors of New York---Spitzer and Patterson are a couple of perverts themselves. If Eliot Spitzer would have been in the teacher's shoes, he would have done the same thing. Ashley Alexandra Dupre (formerly Youmans)was just a few years older than the high school girlfriend. The teacher should have gotten more time---at least he is getting six more months of jail than Spitzer.

Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go to Courtney and her son. Apparently, this event happened before she and Erwin were married? She and her son certainly do not deserve this level of C*** in their lives. She's a very nice lady and a great teacher.

Teachers all over the US receive training about how to avoid these situations. Teachers are advised... no, teachers are admonished to not meet with any student behind closed doors or in areas that are not open and very public. Younger teachers are advised to dress in a fashion that most certainly distinguishes them as adults and professionals. If they choose to ignore this advice, and obviously, some do... they do so at their own professional and personal peril.

EXCELLENT advice and you brought a terrific point.

Why is this not discussed more in the general public? I understand that "most" adults should "Know better".

But let's face it, alot of people, especially when their younger (early 20s) and even a few who are older, have different maturity levels as well as intelligence levels. Many of them are literally clueless to the level of seriousness and consequence having contact with any minor can have.

I understand it's not an excuse, but don't you think it's the governments responsibility to assist the general public into fully understanding these laws?

If more teachers were trained regulary, I'd bet you'll see less incidents. And I'm not talking about giving lectures on the art of keep your hands to yourself, but showing dramitic images and sharing stories of those who's lives were ruined with the stigma of child molestation.

I bet if 20/20 did a special on the concequences of these actions, I'd bet it would help.

If "To catch a Preditor" focused more on the after affects of getting caught rather than the "getting caught" part itself, it could have more impact.

Teachers are human after all. Which means they can be just as stupid as any to make a bad judgment call.

Maybe I do have it wrong, but I understand how it could happen (older man, younger girl-women). As far as labeling the girl as "abysmally immature" well, that's like trying to put the pedals back on the rose. Again, not that I condone his actions, it's just that things are different today. Not to beat an issue, but a 16 year old today, is like a 21 year old. Most, if not all girls that age have been around the block a few times. They all try to emulate the RAP videos, and the street culture, and become promiscuous.
