Polls are fine but we need to know who on the city council is blocking this issue. If they want to say that its a State issue and not a local issue, they are wrong. We should poll the elected officers and see that something gets done.

I hope All of them are! Not everybody wants those death traps on the same streets as oversized pickup trucks.

Riding around in a Golf cart is fun> I agree... But> Golfcart vs Oversized Truck... Dont think; it would b a PRETTY PICTURE !!! |

They should not be ridden on the highway, just caaross. I have never seen an oversized truck on Yates Center's side streets which is where I would ride one. I think they are aafer than ATV's. Safer than bicycles. Cheaper than trying to buy a car on a limited income. The only trouble I had was when some teenage girls were coming up behind me, not paying attention. and almost ran into the back on me. If I have been riding a bicycle or my scooter. I could have been really injured or killed. A car, vs an oversized truck, also not a pretty picture

There are plenty of oversized pickups on the side streets. I have 6 or 7 go by every night - plus numerous ATVs and what people think pass for ATVs (by law you have to ride astraddle - no flat seat to qualify as an ATV).
We've already had two fatalities that I can remember where people were driving vehicles that were not supposed to be on the street and were rammed by other vehicles who had the right to be there. NO GOLF CARTS! |

It sound to me like the problem is not the golf carts but the oversized pickups. Maybe They should be outlawed. They would be a danger to bycicles and those that ride the handicapt scooters too as well as children walking down the street. If they are rammed by vehickles that are supposed to be on the road, then the driver of that vehicle was not watching.

do golf carts carry personal property damage insurance or medical insurance if they run over someone? Is there a registration for golf carts like autos, so they can b tracked if used in criminal activity? Do golf carts have some sort of tax like autos that help pay for the streets that they want to drive on?

No, Neither do bicycles, these moterized scooters that children ride up and down the street or Handicapt scooters.

Incorrect. Golf carts are being taxed by the county assuming the county treasurer knows you own the golf cart.
If they are taxed then they should be allowed on streests
Maybe the taxes go to keep the golf course and road up because they were not designed to drive the city streets. If you use the logic you used then you should be able to drive your boat down the street too. I am sure the motor would "troll" you along. |

Ahh! But a boat does not have wheels to ride on. If it did, and was safe to guide and use, I am sure people would want to use them too.If golf cats were so dangerous then Bella Vista, Arkansas and other retiement communities would not allow them for street use. I can't ride my bicycle anymore on the streets because there are so many cracks and bumps, and holes. I can barely ride my scooter. I didn't feel them with my golf cart. I don't know why it keeps saying my residence is other places. I live here in YC.

Acura what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander. Have you studied why they allow golf carts in those communities?
YC isn't neccesarily a retirement community. It is a community containing a population segment of retired individuals, but it's not the focus of the local city/county government to service only the needs of that particular minority. |

Yes I did check into why golf carts are allowed in retirement communities. Bella Vista when I first checked in 1982, wasn't really considered retirement. It was a vacation propeerty that grew into year round residency. Even now there are more young families living there than retired folks. At first, they allowed golf cart usage because they have several golf courses available. Then, they encouraged electric golf cart usage because it kept the noise level down and didn't have the gasoline emmissions of gasoline powered cars. People still have their cars but continue using golf carts in the local area. Some drive their carts to Bentonville where golf carts are also allowed.

The message your replying to about the side streets, is in Yates Center... You live in topeka... Big difference |
I think so, my grandma's ATV had to be registered. Insurance regulations would be up to the city or county to set the minimum required. |
