What is wrong with everyone? A young man died needlessly!!! Total power corrupts...lets hope this never happens to anyone else...fortunately it will...a sheriff's deputy raped a 14 year old around the area and only got probation??? What is wrong with the powers that control??? Don't trust anyone and especially the police.

This tragedy will only be compounded if we refuse to learn from it. Many questions need to be answered. Was proper protocol followed?(If yes, than maybe we need to change protocol.) If protocol was not followed but no laws were broken, then maybe the P.D. needs to administer some administrive discipline to regain the public trust. Was the device used defective? Then there should be a civil redress through the courts. Of course, in a small town there is always the possibility of a good old-fashioned cover-up. In which case honest, hard-working citizens need to step forward to run for office to replace the corrupt politicians. Remember, "The only thing needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". I would submit to you that simply complaining and hand-wringing alone is the same as doing nothing.

I agree with you. I know someone here in Margaretville who is originally from Kansas and he said drugs are major there. More drugs than probably in much of NY. I think the police should try and nail the drug pushers instead of getting their jollies tasering someone who is naked. I believe that every police officer who carries a taser should be zapped when they are issued it so they know how it feels and not overdo it on a suspect.

actually,"brainiac" we have police officers in our family and they DO NOT HAVE TO BE TAZED it is their choice. they do have to be maced or pepper sprayed.

Look dont get all emotional about it, yes it sucks that this kid died at such a young age. but when looking to see if what was done was right or wrong emotion has nothing to do with it.

The kid was running around on drugs and naked, the cops did know this kid. He, and his friends were known for heavy drug use.

Im getting tired of hearing "he was naked so no unarmed and not dangerous". So are you suggesting the officers that responded to this call should have wrestled with the kid? The officers who have atleast 3 weapons straped to themselves should engage in physical wrestling with the 120 lb sweaty hyped up kid? come on, what if he grabed the gun out of the holster? i dont know this kid but i know he was pretty messed up on something so even if you say "he would never do that...really you dont know"

Im sure the cops didnt just pull up and shoot him they told him to freeze or sit down or stop. all you have to do to get along with police EVEN THE BAD ONES is listen dont run your mouth dont tell them your not gonna do something they tell you too. JUST DO IT. if you feel you dont deserver whatever the cop does take it up with them at court thats the way it works. Cops are doing there jobs, let them do it. If you feel wronged by all means take them to court, dont yell at them or ignore them or tell them your just gonna go home. thats the BS.

and for the record in IOLA the cops do have to get tased before they can carry one.

This guy could have been taken down without several hits from 100,000 volts by more than one taser. The cop used excessive force, plain and simple. when the law suite comes we will see

Place yourself in the place of the officer. The officer arrives to find a known subject naked and high on drugs and/or alcohol. The subject will not comply with the officer’s lawful police order and continues to resist. Getting into a physical confrontation with this subject would only in danger the officer. The officer makes a decision to use his taser to subdue the subject. Note: The officer must be within 21 feet of the subject to use the taser, which only has 50,000 volts of electricity. What would you do? Physical force only places the officer in danger and possibly the public if the subject overcomes the officer and takes his weapon. The baton is effective on most subjects unless that subject has a high tolerance for pain and/or is out of control on drugs. Pepper spray will in most cases cause disorientation and confusion does not always work and there is the chance for cross contamination of the officer and again the possibility of a physical altercation where the officer could lose control of his weapon. Lastly we have the taser. The taser like pepper spray does not always work on a subject. However it has been my experience that most people will comply with your orders when confronted with a taser. Some will only continue to resist. In most cases the taser, pepper spray, baton and physical force are all on the same level of force needed to subdue a subject that resists. It is unfortunate that this subject died. However there is no way the “Taser” killed him. I’m sure if you look close enough you will find a more likely reason this subject died. Could it be that the subject in this case was so high on drugs that he died of some other reason? Remember, you are the officer responding to this and your family is waiting for you to come home safely at the end of your shift.
