'God Hates Fags' sect could lose their church

There are 484 comments on the www.pinknews.co.uk story from Apr 8, 2008, titled 'God Hates Fags' sect could lose their church. In it, www.pinknews.co.uk reports that:

A federal judge has ordered that the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) building and the Phelps-Chartered Law office be taken away from the owners in order to pay a $5 million (£2.54m) fine.

The church, based in Topeka, Kansas, runs numerous websites such as GodHatesFags.com, GodHatesAmerica.com and others expressing condemnation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, Roman Catholics, Muslims and Jews.

The religious organisation was ordered to pay the damages after members of its congregation picketed the funeral of two American servicemen.

Looky here, April 2009. One year later.

It brings to mind Elijah and the prophets of Baal.

1Ki 18:26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

And still no action.

Ha ha ha.

I hope you folk are preparing. Now here is a good check list for what to take with you when going on a nice hot holiday in hell. Make sure you take your fire proof vests and sun glasses, and don't forget, take lots and lots of ice cubes. Hells bells, take the refrigerator. Make sure the power cord is long enough though. Don't forget the air conditioner and plenty of soulful doleful CD's. And above all, don't forget to take a BIG spongy hanky. You're gonna need it

God has His ways and I am happy to see this group get their day in court. God does not 'hate fags'. He sent His son to die for them as well. If they choose to accept His Lordship or reject it is up to them.

What concerned me was the bantering from the religious that this group should not be able to say what they were saying. I disagree. Everyone should have the right to say stupid things and things that may offend others.

I'm thankful for the outcome, but wish freedom of speech to remain free. Even our PC environment is damaging the liberties of citizens.

Absolutely. Otherwise how would we know what dangerous idiots some of them are?
The antidote to toxic speech isn't to silence it, but to make it even more public. And to answer it just as publicly.

Losing thier church would serve them right. There always have and always will be gay people living in this world, so they may as well get used to it.

It's actually not a "church" in the traditional sense. What they did is buy all the homes on one block, put a fence around all of it, move all their family members into these houses, and then they called it a "church".

It's certainly not a traditional church with a steeple, a bell, and a welcoming pastor.

I would have to disagree. It is every bit as much a church in the same sense as Jonestown, the Branch Davidians, the Solar Temple, Heaven's Gate, or the People's Temple was a church.

You know what is hilarious? Westboro sure can dish it out but not take it. I was livid over them picketing the funerals of some cheerleaders who had gotten killed in a car accident in East Tennessee. I tried several times to contact them via email and phone calls and nevergot thru to anyone. I was going to tell them off. I'm not sure what good that would do, I was so angry. I couldn't imagine what the parents of these children were going thru and the thought of idiots making a mockery of their lives just set me off. I would have a hard time living close to these people and interacting with them out in town.

There was an article in the Washington Post today about 7 people from Westboro who picketed Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, MD, because they believed that Whitman was gay or bisexual.(The Post says the jury is out on that.) Fourty local police and five horses showed up to control the situation, creating a comedic scene. When school let out, more than 500 students, en masse, gathered and shouted "Walt Whitman" and "Go Home" until the Westboro visitors left. They came off looking foolish.

Having recently moved from Topeka(where I lived for 8 years), I can tell you that the citizens of Topeka DON'T interact with the Phelps Phollies if they can at all avoid it! They are probably more vilified in Topeka than elsewhere. Like the old saying goes, "Please don't judge our village by its idiot!"

Whenever a right wing-nut claims that hate crimes laws would stifle religious speech I point to Phelps and his detestable clan as proof that the claims are horse crap.

If hate crimes law really did stifle speech, the whole crew would have been locked up years ago.

What is the Ren Newcomer and Newcomer Funeral Home connection go a homosexual prostitution ring? Ren Newcomer, Henry Vinson, Thomas Parmalee, Craig Spence has been in the news a lot lately for some reason. What is the real story that Thomas Parmalee is reporting or is this more closeted homosexual love affairs gone bad? the public has a right to know what is ren newcomer, henry vinson, thomas parmalee connection or is this another married man gets caught with his pants down in the wrong place? what are the facts: thomas parmalee is gay or thomas parmalee is closet gay or thomas parmalee and ren newcomer in marriage gone bad? why does henry vinson always date rich old men or rich fat men with power? what do you call someone who will date men for money? we all know what he really is and it starts with a p and ends with an e. all these people should be barred from funeral business if they put money over people.

If they don't quit the shenanigans, Phelps could lose his own personal fortune as well. And wouldn't that be a crying shame.
"It is Easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:24
They are nothing more than a family of lawyers who filed as a church to get tax exemption. Heck, anyone can start a church. They do it all the time in Indiana. What Phelps then did was cause anger over his anti-gay hate speech so he could sue people in court and get money for their infringing on his religious freedom and freedom of speech. All frauds are exposed in the end....and this is one great crumbling of a hatred that is over due.
