The only reason a few of the individuals are for this, is because there's nothing at the Top of The World! A route bypassing them would not affect the economy there at all. It however hurt us (the few that commute to the valley area for work). Not all of us are for this!!!

Safer and faster for the greater good of the greater masses. I vote for the freeway to bypass Top Of The World.

I drive 3,000 miles a month on US 60 between the San Tan Valley (Queen Creek south) and Eagar, AZ. The cost of putting a freeway through Top Of The World would be much more than looping around to the east end of Globe. My bi-weekly trip would be safer, faster and more economical if Queen Creek Canyon, Devils Canyon, Top Of The World and Miami through Globe were not part of that run. I do believe freeway access points for the formentioned locations should be part of the implimentation. I-40 and I-10 have provided better access without major disruption or total anialation of many small communities. Top Of The World, Devils Canyon and Queen Creek Canyon are amazingly beautifull during a rain or snow storm, some of the most facinating scenery in the world. Unfortunately for too many, it has been devestatingly dangerous if not deadly. Follow the heart surgeons, give it a bypass.

My parents have lived up there for over 15yr and we all know and agree that this by pass should be revamped. Safer, absolutely. However, there are other better alternatives then going right over "top of the world". But ADOT, doesnt want to spend the time or money to deal with the national forest.
I just know that it would be a shame to uproot all those homes for the sake of progress. Especially when there are alternatives.

IN DRIVING THROUGH TOP OF THE WORLD FOR 15+ YEARS THE ONLY BUSINESS I HAVE EVER SEEN IS A LADY SELLING BEEF JERKY OUT OF HER VAN (on weekends) AND A (in the last few months)A SMALL ROOM THAT SELLS SNOW CONES........ A 4 LANE HIGHWAY THROUGH THERE WOULD BE AN IMPROVMENT

I grew up in this great state... With family living in the Phoenix area we go through Top of the world often. I have seen numerous accidents on this road.... And personally will not drive on it at night or when it is raining. A bypass would be awsomw for everyone!

Today -April 4th, there was actually a bicycle group of senior citizens biking up the 60 to Globe. We were in a car heading down to the Valley, and several times had to swerve to the right (near the rock wall) to avoid head on traffic trying to pass around them on the two lane road....no more crosses are needed on
that stretch of road, there have been plenty throughout the years.

So glad we weren't in the tunnel with them, can you just imagine, & with all the
semis that drive that road...yikes, bikes!!

I give through Top-Of-The-World at least four times monthly on my way to Globe or Thatcher. The easiest method of improving the 60 would be to level Top-Of-The-World and open the route to 4 lanes. I just watched some guy get wasted on a motorcycle today in that section of the 60 and it was nasty. Top-Of-The-World is a CDP and the fact that they have a business area is a joke. The vast majority of residents live well below the state average for income and way they consider a home consists of a trailer or temporary structure. If the CDP had incorporated they would have a leg to stand on in my book, but since they didn't too bad. As a tax payer I want a safer route to use and I don't care if a poverty stricken CDP gets in the way.

Property stricken. Give me a break. The top of the world is beautiful country! And if you checked out the price of an acre of land, Tom , you would see that most property Stricken families could not afford to live there. it is within a good driving distance to apache junction, and 15 to 20 degrees cooler. The highway should really be diverted.

Since I have been disagreed with, check the research. Surveys by different firms (available on the net) presented several directions for a freeway to be built. The direction with the most consistant terrain is the southern route leaving Top Of The World intact. Unless you are a road contractor, the basic taxpayer would appreciate more intelligent use of hiway funds. Sooooo, I vote we ignore TOTW, the cost of buying them out greatly exceeds the cost of the government buying their own land. Have a nice day, courtesey pays.

933Driven this route several times day and night and my husband and I have discussed this topic each and every time we go out to some of the abandoned mine sites and other mineral collecting areas we frequent. This road is 100x more safe than the unpaved portion of the 88 (Apache Trail) and frankly we've noticed people, mainly locals from TOTW, Globe-Miami, Superior, Pinto Valley, Queen Creek etc driving like morons. We've clocked trucks and bikers going 80+

A road is only as safe as you drive it. Follow the rules and no one gets hurt. The mining companies are at fault here too as their trucks often appear to be driven by extremely tired (or drunk) operators.

save the tax dollars, get more troopers up there handing out tickets and the problem will be solved.

I am an Army/Navy Disabled vet and have run the Top of the World Trading Post for six years now. I serve the communty by offering shaved ice (29 flavors), Rootbeer floats, and ice cream every day of the year. We have everything fom antiques to rocks and crystals. I have a cat named Pearl, and two dogs, Shiela and Dingo. There's a place to rest and relax and cool down in a friendly atmosphere, no rush. I am not a seasonal store, I am year round for the community and for tourists. I keep all of my prices reasonable to down right cheap. Before all of this God is first. Please come and visit, you will be welcome. KEC 07/29/2014

I assume everyone up there has private water wells. Do you know of any of the water levels in the wells lowering? Do you know any ranchers in the region whose water supply is being affected? The Resolution Copper mine is dewatering the old Magma mine area so they can mine it again. I don't know the hydrology, but I know it's a volcanic tuff through there, so water movement could be hard to predict.
