This is so tragic but the way people drive on hgwy 36 makes it a death trap. I am not suggesting the car involved in this accident was going too fast but am taking an opportunity to bring up a very serious problem. Not a day goes by when I am driving the speed limit and am passed by people going at least 70 or higher. Tooele County needs to lower the speed limit on highway 36 and the police need to be out there at all times. I have lived in several different areas and truly have not seen such blatant disregard of speed limits and tail gaiters. Daily I see cars weave in and out of the lanes in an effort to pass those of us who go the speed limit. Tooele Residents and those who use this Hgwy regularly need to start obeying the speed limit, quit tail gaiting, and have respect and consideration for other people on the road.

I totally agree with you. I have been cut off many times on this road. I am very surprised we don't have more fatal crashes on this road. Seldom do I ever see a police vehicle. This is a really sad situation! My heart goes out to the families of those people. Sad thing is i'm pretty positive that tomorrow morning all the idiots who are in such a hurry will be back doing the same thing they always do on that road!!

I too drive Hwy 36 every day and the Highway Patrolmen are just as guilty. But to the subject. My heart too goes out to the family.

**Sorry people, this isnt your personal blog about what the police may or may not be doing, so please have some respect and don't treat it as such.

My heart and prayers truly go out to everyone who was touched by the lives of those 3 people. May you all find peace and shred of comfort in this hard time.

I see the Highway Patrol and Tooele Police on this Highway with someone polled over frequently. This is not just a problem in Tooele, it's a problem on I-80, I-215, I-15 etc. If the speed limits 75 people go 85 to 90, if the speed limits 65 they go 80 or higher. People in Utah tailgaite no matter where you are and how fast you are going. Lowering the speed limit isn't going to change that. I get passed driving in Tooele where the main road speed limit is 35. People just need to drive more careful.
My husband drove past this accident just after it happened and he is still upset. Our prayer our with the family.

Kristi was my best friend. She was a very kind, beautiful, intelligent girl. She was a good friend to have and protected everyone she loved. She was blessed with so many friends that loved her. That baby was everything to her, she worked so hard to give him the world. He was a beautiful perfect baby. All of my love and prayers go out to her family. They have lost so much already, Jodi,Shawn(Cho),Dennis, and Nisha.... I love you all.

Very tragic! My heart goes out to this family and all involved. Hopefully this will be an eye opener for the County Commissioners that more Sheriff Deputies are needed to make our roads safer.

I drive down this road everyday. I really wish that the others who drive on this road acted more responsible when behind the wheel. I think everyone who drives this road on a constant basis has had some form of accident or near accident because of the semi drivers on this road. The Sheriff's office out here needs to focus more on the semi drivers than their normal antics, creating situations to pull people over. I have never seen a semi pulled over on SR-36 in my six years of living in Tooele no matter how reckless they drive. This is a horrible story and I wonder how many more of them will happen before someone in local authority tries to do something proactive to try and prevent things like this. The police need to worry less about driving ten miles under the speed limit so they can bust someone who gets frustrated and tries to pass all the traffic this officer creates behind them. I remember totaling my car because I hit some black ice and lost control of my car at 1am when it was 18 degrees outside. I nearly died in that accident and had to be pulled from the car by the fire department and taken to the hospital by ambulance. What did the cop worry about? Giving me a ticket because he said he didn't see any black ice hours after it happened. This ticket was later thrown out of court because it the Judge too into consideration the extent of the accident and it was sub-zero when it happened. Sorry if that distracted anyone from the real story, I was just making a point.

My heart goes out to Nisha and her family whom I have known for many years in Tooele. I did not know Kristy, but my heart goes out to her family as well. This is a very sad time for them and for us all. May peace be with all of the family and friends that have been touched by this.

I'll tell you just what the problem is, all these outsiders moving here from the big cities and not changing their driving habits. The 20+ years I lived in Tooele county I started to see a big change around 1995 when all these big city hot shots moved in and still drive like they were on the L.A. freeway. You people just need to leave your homes a little earlier to get to work. The readers who judged some of these comments as clueless are the guilty ones, and your number will come up soon if you don't change YOUR driving habits!!!
