First off, the two seat version of the F-15 is an "E" model, not a "D" model. Second, the second crew member is not a "pilot", but a WSO - weapons systems operater. Get it right numbnuts.

It was an aggressor, "D" model. Not a Strike "E" Model. And the second crew member could have been another pilot, so chill.

Heh. and we're the best air force in the world? And we got clowns like this, with unchecked multimillion dollar machinery?

There are basically 3 types of F-15 in use today. The F-15C is a single seat air to air fighter, the F-15D is a 2 seater identical to the C except it holds two people, and the Strike Eagle (F-15E) is a two seater only and carries bombs and missiles and the back seat "pilot" is the WSO (Weapons Systems Officer). I've worked all three and currently teach the F-15C/D weapons systems.
The F-15A/B models can still be found in limited numbers with several Air National Guard units across the country, but they are being phased out.

Unchecked Multi-million Dollar Machinery? I am also a "Resource Adviser" and I can say from experience they hold us accountable for every penny we spend (we are tax payers too).
The F-15 has been around since the 1970's. It was an expensive aircraft, but well worth the price. Although keeping it in the air costs more with each passing year, it is still a viable defender of our nation. The exercise this story was mentioning is a huge deal. No where else in the world do pilots get pushed to their limit like "Red Flag". "Cope Thunder" in Alaska is also another vital training site. The loss of an aircraft is never good, but it is an unavoidable truth in today's high paced military tempo.

It is so said. The crash occurred on the Nevada Test and Training Range about 50 miles east of Goldfield, Nev., said Charles Ramey of Nelli's Air Force Base.
He said the crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday as the jet was taking part in an Exercise Red Flag combat training mission.
Both pilots were assigned to the 65th Aggressor Squadron at Nelli's Air Force Base, whose mission is to simulate opposing enemy air forces during Red Flag exercises.
The names of the pilots involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

So how do those of you who live around Nellis Air Force Base feel about the idea of Fort Pickett near Blackstone, VA being converted into an outlying landing field for the U.S. Navy jets stationed at Fentress Field in Chesapeake, VA and Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA!?
