I was told that the old high school is not being torn down, just closed down. The original plan was to tear down the building except for the gym, but then they found out that it would cost more to tear it down than it was worth because of the disposal and removal cost of asbestos in the cafeteria. So, it is just being closed and all programs that were at the old high school are being moved to other locations in the school district. I was told that it was being closed because the building was condemned due to the asbestos in the cafeteria and that it costs about 350,000 a year to keep the building operational.

The kitchen was built in the mid 70's after asbestos. I too have heard of this rediculously cost factor. What could cost this much?
