Hi there! A few years ago, I heard that some construction workers discovered a long-forgotten underground area with storefronts that was underneath main street. I have been trying to find out more about it, but haven't had any luck. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!!!

Years ago, I was told by a former rail road employee that there were underground tunnels from the old depot to city offices, complete with early phone systems connecting the old RR tower to city officials, built in the WW1 era.
i remember that too!

I saw that segment on the news. It was infront of a barber shop but that's all I remember.

Recently during a dig, construction workers discovered an underground area beneath Sherman, Texas' main street. This was shocking to all resident, including local historians and longtime residents. They didn't know such a place existed!

It could be an old undergroud shopping area, as shop signs have been found there.

I heard the same thing myself years ago from sources at the railroad and from the city. The old phone was still in the old SP tower at the time...and was still in working condition.

No, it wasn't a "shock"..........LON G TIME residents and HISTORIANS have known for DECADES that the tunnels ( with shops ) and phone systems were in place, and were still operational in the late 80's! You just believed the poorly written and badly researched writings of the pitiful excuses of reporters at local media. There are similar underground passages in Paris, Tx.
