I do not understand how anyone can be called "unpatriotic" for using some common sense. Even firing "blanks" downtown would have shook this city up! Anyone who can't understand that ought to have their head examined, regardless of their patriotism.
By the way, weren't the people, like me, who opposed the war in Iraq labeled "unpatriotic"?
Thank goodness, the majority of Americans are opposed to that war now. And, thank goodness, Bush II cannot be re-elected.
If we strengthen the United States from within, we don't need to fear the terrorists.

DON'T BE SO HARD ON CARTY. AFTER ALL, HE IS THE SAME MAYOR THAT MADE THE GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS BUT SUGGESTING THAT WE SEND ALL THE DEAF PEOPLE TO LIVE NEAR THE AIRPORT A FEW YEARS BACK. WE KNOW HE IS NOT THE SHARPEST TOOL IN THE TOOL BOX. BUT SOMEHOW HE DID MANAGE TO GET ELECTED MAYOR. MAYBE WE CAN FIX THAT WITH THE NEXT ELECTION.

I agree with Mayor Finkbeiner about cancelling the Marines.(Not so sure about suspending his spokesman that long when Carty himself has been known to use a few chosen words.)
Think about it. Would any other city want Marines firing "Blank Ammunition" in their downtowns' over the weekend? Just because downtown Toledo does not have a "social life" is no reason to permit that!!!
Carty was right to cancel he Marines. Everyone who disagrees with him is wrong. Toledo is a city; not an armed services training ground.
