DaimlerChrysler to stop making diesel SUV

I know the diesel mini van is a monster, that thing really runs. They are crazy for not introducing it to the US market right now. Why wait.

Piston engines are outdated, they use too many moving (and wearing) parts, their fuel efficiency is poor...but...I don't see any reasonable replacement for it. Wankel's rotary engines are underdeveloped by now, and gas turbine engines on cars are something funny (and expensive) but not very practical for a daily driver. It seems the Otto's four stroke engine still has some life, let's make it cleaner and more fuel-efficient.

Diesels can be ridiculously powerful with only tuning! My 2004 Ford F250 makes 860 ft/lbs and 475 HP! It makes this hulking monster irresponsibly fast! And the thing still gets 20 MPG- and will get better with propane injection. Considering the size, mass and shocking lack of aerodynamics, this is pretty good.

Now the real question- why couldn't I get a diesel Dakota back in 2004 when I bought my Ford? The word is that they already had the powertrain, but refused to market it. My purchase of my Ford serves them right!

Women will eventually hate the diesel because of the mess at fueling. Once the diesel smell gets on their new outfit and they smell like diesel all day at work, that will be the end. I have used diesels for work trucks and tractors for 30 years and they are good for hard,long pulling. Over time a gas engine cannot match them for this. They are not worth a dam for sunday morning church trip drivers which is what I call most of the drivers proclaiming the switch to diesel.

Hands down, biodiesel is the way to go! Cleaner burning, readily renewable, and if it compels you, you can make it your damn self!!

At this rate diesel might be 6 bucks a gallon by the end of summer. Thank god I dont commute anymore.

The typical diesel gets about 30% better fuel economy and lasts much longer before needing to be rebuilt, so who cares if the fuel costs slightly more per gallon? It's cost per mile that counts, not cost per gallon.

To avoid that, there's always the option of putting the nozzle into the car's fuel neck rather than simply shooting it in that general direction from several feet away. I fill my diesel VW Golf's tank and don't ever smell of diesel. If your wife lacks the coordination to fill a fuel tank without shooting fuel all over her clothes, she needs to take public transportation.

My VW diesel Golf gets almost 50 miles per gallon, but you're getting your panties in a twist because the fuel costs slightly more than gasoline? Stupid me -- here I've been looking at cost per mile.
