Durham Murders

Im willing to bet the police did not with hold facts about the case to shelter the citizens of this county. Anyone that has lived here more than a week knows the county kissess ASU's butt adn there not going to release any info that could possibly hurt the schools enrollment. The police and there efforts to try and protect the college have in the past let criminals go free and they will continue to do so in the future. I mean just think would you send your kids up here to school knowing how many murders have actually taken place in or around boone in the last 20 years?

What the heck does a murder that happened nearly 40 years ago have to do with asu? Unbelievable.

Tammy, wow, you just redefined dumb, but when I noticed you're from Mtn. City it made sense. Yeah, the police are covering up and withholding all kinds of info about the giant murder problem in Boone to protect ASU's enrollment. It all makes perfect sense. I just wonder how people as dumb as you even make it through the day....

I find it amazing that after 40 years and the advancement in DNA analysis and technology there is not any new information known about the Durhamn family murders. I was only two when this occurred but I remember it being discussed in our house. It has always been the theory of my Daddy who had ties to the law enforcement community that the son in law played a role in the murders. Why would someone who's husband and son being strangled call their son in law and not the sheriffs department. I do hope that the case can be solved however to bring closure to the mystery. I knew the family who lived in the Durhamn house when I was a child. I never liked visiting with them because of what happened in that house.

From everything I was able to find on the case, it really does look like it could have been the son in law, but who knows. The Yes!Weekly article is really interesting. I was lucky that my mom kept some newspaper clippings because surprisingly, there has never been a lot of coverage on this crime. You would think that an unsolved triple homicide in a small town would be snatched up by "Unsolved Mysteries" or something like that in a heartbeat.
my brother murder had little coverage to and is unsolved to so I know the frustration

I heard something about play rehearsal being cancelled the evening the murders occurred and Ginny saying " Bobby wasn't supposed to be there" over and over.

From family folklore, just the parents were supposed to be there.

Well ok, but who else was supposed to have helped?
It certainly couldn't have been the son-in-law by himself.

People are always quick to point the finger at the son-in-law, but nobody ever follows that up with a theory as to how he did it. Did he have supposed accomplices?

I was there . The half eaten chicken dinner proves I was there. they were hand cuffed, not tied, and were drowned in the bathroom just as you enter the house. there is {was} a safe under the stairwell. It was not a robbery, and there was no three black men involved. the borrowed car was from the GM dealership and was found up the road, with a silver platter on the passenger seat, engine and wipers running. There was also blood found in the den. the murderers were already in the house before the snow started. Psychic 19 . Feb is right around the corner.

Not that I know of, but I find it strange the son in law goes out in a snow storm to the library to study, and he said the mother in law called claiming the son and father were being beaten, then the phone hangs up. he tries to call back and gets a busy signal. the investigators found the phone ripped off the wall. If you call back to a phone that's pulled from the wall you will NOT get a busy signal. STRANGE also : if they were drowned in that bathroom, why was the floor bone dry? they were found in the tub with the water going out the over flow. If there was a struggle, wouldn't you think there would be at least one drop of water on the floor?

I just recently read a story about this case in a 1972 Detective Case magazine. The article stated that something valuable was taken from the basement, but they did not disclose what it was. Is this related to the safe you mention? The article also said that there were some bullet holes found in the walls. This info is never mentioned nowadays, interesting.
