Traffic is crazy in Boone. What can be done to ease traffic congestion?

Remove visitor traffic, and thus remove visitor revenue. Choose.

ASU should not let first and second year students bring cars to boone. That would cut out thousands of cars per day on our roads. They have the applecart now, plus other forms of public transportation.

Most other schools in the state do not let fresh and soph students bring cars to campus.

That would be a good start

No cars for sophomores and freshmen? It's not like campus is in a big city.

Are you serious? How many 1st year students would even consider App if they couldn't bring their car. Go ahead and close the college and say goodbye to revenue.

Over development has already ruined Boone. Its not going to stop. Between app and tempelton you might as well kiss the mountains goodbye. 10 years and the only view will be condos for asu students.

I understand Boone relies heavily on tourism for revenue. However, why hasnt a Boone bypass been built yet? I seroiusly think the town wants all this traffic congestion. 321 below Lenoir & 421have have been widened, why hasnt attention been given to 105 where so many accidents occur?

Do most other colleges in the state of NC allow 1st year students to bring their cars?

Well, I guess this answers my question about a Boone bypass. http://www.regiond.org/WCTP.html

It would not effect the new student population very much, at least it hasn't at most other schools in the UNC system. It is common practice at most reputable universities all over the country as well. The first thing you will notice is less cars and congestion on our busy streets. The second thing you will notice is the retention rate of students as their time will be spent on campus with their peers.

I drive in boone everyday. I'll be honest, if most of those drivers are students, then they've been there a while. Most of the drivers I see are older adults.

I wish they would get rid of the university. I miss the way this town used to be before ASU owned everything.

Maybe we wouldn't have so many outlying drug opportunities if younger students couldn't drive to them.

Hmmmmmm the problem exists because the town has some excellent folks, past and present on the planning commission.

No cars for ASU students as freshmen at the very least would help. To the person that said they see mostly older drivers when they drive in Boone each day, I drive each day as well and I see A LOT of people in general. lol
