After graduating from Appalachian State University more than two decades ago, Eustace Conway decided to take a crack at Henry Thoreau's philosophy of getting back to nature - that is, of living "deliberately." He purchased some land outside Boone, N.C., built up his property, and has been using his "nature school" to teach hundreds of people how to ... (more)

Dude is a joke. He doesn't live off of the land like he says. He makes his money by giving tours and classes. And if he wants to be open to the public, he needs to build his buildings according to code.

If the place has passed several inspections, why is it now a problem?

He hasn't. They didn't inspect his property until recently. He runs a business. If I go into a restaurant, they damn well better be up to code. I expect the same from any business I go to.

From the article:

"the county’s demands are a little strange considering that after all this time (26 years) and several inspections, it has suddenly decided his property is a hazard."

Just because Eustace said it doesn't make it true. Plus, he owns a large amount of acerage. If he doesn't get permits, the county doesn't know the buildings are there. So, no inspections were performed. He's a criminal. Plain and simple.

In a manner of speaking.

I was born in the South, spent part of my formative years there, the rest in Pennsylvania and nearly all my adult life in Illinois.

I returned to the South when I retired.

In the years I've been on Topix, only 1 other person has questioned it, and no one has questioned my avatar, which surprised me.

IF he is a criminal, why has he not been arrested? IF the county does not know they are there then nobody on the county board must own a TV as they were shown on the series. You need to go to the Boone Bagelary and chill out on one of those over priced bagels.

Then do not go, nobody is forcing you to go. Now, come clean, is one of your daughters one of those who are drawn to him?

Ha! My daughters have standards. Eustace doesn't meet them. And he has been arrested. He currently has pending charges

Ha! if you are living in Boone NC, then I will agree that your daughters might have standards, now the only question is the level of your daughter's standards.

Let's just say that the majority of the fellas around here don't meet their standards. Brushing teeth daily is required, and that definitely rules Eustace out.

So, any male who brushes his teeth daily will get a shot at your daughters? Not very high standards.

Ha! Only a fool like you would think that a daily teeth brushing is a sole standard. Not being a dumb@$$ is also a requirement, so that rules you out.

Don't worry, I already had them,$20 was not all that much. The Quality in Plus is not that bad a place, however, they should set their standards a bit higher when it comes to Hotels.
