I just moved to the area a couple of weeks ago and now that I am finally settled I am looking for a gym to go to. I know there are a few to choose from (Anytime Fitness, The Gym, ect.) so I was juse wondering which ones have the best rates, equipment, ect. I am a full time student but I am currently attending the CCC&TI Watauga campus before transferring to Appalachian. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There were some nice pictures of Stratiform Gym on Craigslist's Rants and Raves section.

The GYM at new market is by far the best over all. I have been to everyone of them and they all have ups and downs but over all the GYM is the best. Nice people , good machines , close to big lots , coffee, food etc etc. easy parking and a fair price.

The gym at New Market would be my pick. Mr. Roten who owns the gym is a good guy. I used to go to Appalachian Fitness when he owned it and it was a great place until he sold it. From what I have heard his gym at New Market is very nice. location location wrote: The GYM at new market is by far the best over all. I would not recommend Xtreme Fitness at all. The owner is a jerk....plus spelling Extreme without the E is about 15 years past its prime.

John doesn't own the Gym anymore. The membership is dropping drastically due to the new owner from rumors out there.

The Gym 24/7 is the most convenient and the new owners are pleasant, the prices are very reasonable, always having a place to park is nice, the place is always clean and has great trainers. The others are probably nice too but I would recommend the Gym 24/7.
well deserved - Haven't noticed any drop in membership, actually have seen a few new faces.

I would recommend going to "the gym" it's easy to get in and out. Very nice equipment, great staff, very clean, and the rates are the best.
And in response to well deserved, I go to this gym all the time, and all the regulars are still there, and plenty of new faces.

Regular 5 days a week guy here, and The Gym is the 3rd I've been to in town. It's the only of the 3 that promotes actual lifting. A few of the trainers, who don't work there, are kind enough to offer advice on technique and exercises. Some of the other regulars, of which there are many, work for competitions and tend to dominate a large chunk of the floor all at once. They can be worked with, or around, but it can be frustrating if you're also a person who has a designed and timed routine. That being said, there is enough equipment to 90% of the time accompany a same or similar exercise that is just as beneficial. Also, alternative methods are accepted. Back parking area accommodates tire flipping, sledgehammer swinging, walking lunges and whatever else you can come up with that doesn't do bodily harm to pedestrians. Most of the people are super friendly, some are super withdrawn, others are full of meathead 'tude. So, it's a regular ass gym! Can't speak for Stratiform, campus facilities, or Extreme Fitness, but The Gym 24/7 blows Wellness Center and Anytime Fitness out of the water and punches them in the throat.

X-treme fitness is the best gym. Tons of equipment, always clean and the best dumbbells in the area. I asked the owner a question about lifting and he spent a lot of time explaining things to me, where else can you get that?

Anytime Fitness is awesome!! Bob, the owner, is a super nice guy and extremely helpful. The gym is clean, open 24 hours, and your membership is good at any other location!

I would rank them in this order myself. The GYM is the best as it has the best mix of people, hours and rates. Anytime is very good but leans toward fitness vs weight lifting. Stratiform is for the serious power lifter but has normal hours and is not open 24/7. The Wellness center is very nice and has a pool and track but is very pricey and the hours are not 24/7 as well. It also is geared more toward fitness than lifting but offers rehabilitation classes i think. X-treme is small is about all i know of it. The rec centers on campus are really nice but unless you are a student you would go broke trying to work out there.
