Can anyone tell me why the NC DOT can spend 30 million dollars on a bridge we dont need or several hundred million to redo the entrance to Boone or how they can afford to pay 10 guys to watch 1 guy work but they cant afford to put salt on the roads after our recent snow storm?

Same reason they are spending 12million building a cloverleaf for 321 in lenoir, designed to relieve traffic flow from the furniture factories, however projected was approved 12yrs ago and now all these factories are closed and abandoned. Traffic count is probably 1/50th of what is once was.

so basically we are allowing these idiots to piss away our tax dollars on projects that we dont need and for the most part dont want so that later they can come back screaming that we need higher taxes so they can afford to maintain the roads. Like after a snow storm the DOT's majoy concern is to clear the path for ASU. the rest of us can pretty much rot until they have ensured that ASU has all there roads cleared and looking all pretty. No wonder our country is heading down the crapper in a hurry

Brian what bridge are you talking about? As far as the new entrance to Boone you can thank ASU for that one along with half the other things that are wrong in Boone

Are you saying that ASu paid for teh work going into boone? Or are you saying that a little school up in the mountains managed to bully teh DOT into spending millions of dollars tehy didnt have? As as for what bridge im talking about its in cove creek Where there is only a 5 foot wide creek yet they are spending 30 million to replace the bridge instead of just putting a colvert pipe in it adn being done with it for good

The new section of 421 into Boone was redone because ASU wanted to update the main entance to the college. If you lve in Watauga county you should know by now that what the College wants the college gets. Here is another little know secret the college has its own water supply on Howards Creek but it uses the town of Boone sewer plant. The sewer plant has been upgraded atleast once if not twice due to the amount of load from the college. Do you thing they help the town pay for those upgrades?

Brian, what are you talking about? What bridge is being replaced for $30 mil? And the 421 widening project cost in the $16 mil range, not "several hundred million" Your numbers are way off.

I know of a retarded monkey that could do a better job of keeping our roads cleared of snow and ice in the winter then these idiots we have working for the DOT up here.

Get your a## out there and clear these steep roads then. There's more to it then just driving along merry as can be letting a little salt out the back of your truck dummy. I know a few of the men that work on these roads trying to keep them safe for us. There's very little salt can do when the temps. get low enough + not to mention every state only gets a certain amount of salt. So yea thats smart just use it all up so that people like you can move up in the mnts and have something else to gripe about not right with our town. I'm sure using the word retarded makes you sound smart. Didn't you have a mother to teach you any better? If you can't drive these mnt. roads in the winter then this place aint for you so head back down south. Glad your not the one risking your life for anyone else or we'd all be doomed. The DOT has done fantastic as far as clearing the roads. Back roads are called secondary roads for a reason IDIOT. And another reason the main roads clear faster is because there's MORE heat from MORE cars running them helping the salt work!!!! In every aspect of life, you need to educate yourself, before you go and look dumb like your appearing now

I have been in Boone a long time, and the DOT does an excellent job with what they have keeping our roads cleared in the Winter. Thanks DOT for your hard work.

they do preform a good job of keeping the roads cleared in boone for the skiers and the students. but pretty much say screw the rest of us in the county. on average it takes 3 to 5 adys after a snow before we even see a dot truck near our roads and most of the time when they do come threw they still leave 4 or 5 inches of snow on the road for those of us living out of town to deal with

Brian, How can you possibly expect the DOT to service every little back country road?

Hey brian when you live in the mtns a four wheel drive would be a good purchase. I have lived here my whole life seen plenty of worse snows an ice storms than we have had in the past couple years an never had any problem getting anywhere

Aren't all the dirt rds. around here pushed by hired help anyway? I don't think the DOT normally have them on their routes? I live way out in the Boonies, out in Bethel and our roads this way are kept really good. Brian, you sound very disrespectful to all these men and women out here doing a risky job so that we can get to work safely. Maybe your not the best driver and have taken a a tumble from the snow? If your not comfortable driving in the snow then don't be out in it, or invest in a Jeep. This is Jeep country up here! Either way, have some respect for all these hardworking people, if it weren't for them we'd all be walking to work in the winter. And by the way KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP DOT!!THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!
