This "development" business is getting out of hand in this county. Why can't it be a place for people to live year round rather than a vacation home for the rich? I'm a single mother living in Boone and do you realize I can't find an affordable home??? I'm paying $500 for a one bedroom, one bath apartment and I'd rather be paying a mortgage for that price.....I would be were I still living in Louisiana! I guess most people don't vacation there, but it shouldn't mean I have to go back there to afford a home. Watauga doesn't have to cow-tow to the rich to survive. It can survive off the normal community that most towns suvive on, and most don't have a university to depend on.

GO Lay down and lick yourself, The Real estate agents, Contractors, And timber cutters (not that much timber is cut in Johnson Co.) are people making a living, Unlike people like you who sit at home draw a welfare check or a Disability check and most probally havent gotten to your 32 birthday yet,
Change scares the h3ll out of you because you are afraid that people will notice you and people like you suck the resources dry while sitting at home waithing on the mail man to bring you your check, Bring on the developments Yes the taxes will go up but so will the workforce.....Opps there i go again scaring you....... I would rather see my county being developed, than decaying away into nothing while welfare trash like sits on the couch ..........

How come the mega development in Unicoi County was stopped dead in its tracks with a mega infusion of Federal,State,Local, and private money to stop the development?(10,000 acres)
And you don't see any difference in the approach of the Unicoi County Commissission and County Mayor and their counter-parts in Johnson County?Sen. Axexander,David Davis,Gov. Bredison all pouring money into Unicoi and adjoining county to save the mountains, water, and forests. And we all know the current extent of Government holdings in Unicoi;Johnson is pale in comparison.
Result? They will save theirs and have it for generations to come.Ours? Gone to "development".
The ex- Mayor of Unicoi actually seemed to withhold information about the "developers" by refusing to identify them;the biggest fan of the development? Yup...... the County TAX ASSESSOR.
I hope you have a new water source in mind, because you are going to need it.
Hats off to the current County Mayor of Unicoi County, he knows how to protect his county, both land and PEOPLE.
