New CRCT Requirements?

A state lawmaker wants to add first and second grades to the list of those required to pass the CRCT in order to be promoted to the next grade.

This lawmaker has never been in a first grade classroom, nonetheless a classroom full of little kids who are testing, I would surmise. We speak with authority when we know what we're advocating, dear politicians. First graders are those little guys who sit and pull at your stockings, pretend to be Batman, and have smiles full of missing teeth; their not hardened test-takers. Let them be children for just a little time before you start rolling out the high-stakes stress.

My 5th grader is a straight A student. They had a "pep rally" at his school last week. The principal was ignorant enough to tell the entire student body " if you miss 1 or 2 questions you will have to go to summer school and may not be promoted" NO STRESS !! This is all a grant driven testing system to grade the TEACHERS and gain grants for the schools. Our kids are the lab rats.

The test is stressful for children no mater how we explain it. If a child does well all during the year, one test should not determine if the child is able to be promoted. This discourages the child.

I think the CRCT tests are a waste of time and puts too much pressure on our kid's. If a child passes all classes all year, then why should they have to take a special test to be promoted. Let them be children!Life is hard enough as it is so let them enjoy it while they can. It's ridiculous to hold them back due to one test.If the teachers do their job then the kids should be fine.
