Wow! Found this link today on GOOD's website: http://www.good.is/post/picture-show-absence-...

Made me wonder about our old stomping grounds at NCR as kids. This is an amazing transformation! I knew they closed the pool, but in my head I had pictured dilapidated ruins not this gorgeous landscaping.

Last I was there would have been about 25 years ago.

Two girlfriends took me there, in the 1970s and 1980s, their dads being employees, you see. Joyce and Marie Jean, two little cuties.

I was fortunate to have life guarded there in late 50's and early 60's. Tremendous pool, had 5,000 plus in pool area on hot Sunday, 16 life guard posts around pool, one plane 2' to 12' at boards. Wonder where all the old guards are ?

She was Mary Jean, who worked at the Custom Car Wash on North Main Street, she being petite and sweet, like Joyce was.

I was a guard there in the summers of 1975,1976. Had the best time of my life! The park was a great place to work and I have many fond memories of the people I met then.

Wow. This all brings back memories of the park. There was that smell of chlorine as you left that old bathhouse and crossed over the bridge where the carp waited for popcorn! I would take the bus over in the early afternoon and then find my father's car in that huge parking lot and wait for a ride home. Great times.

Thanks Everyone for all these great comments... As the last full time Park Manager, It was a very sad day in 1998 when we found out there would be no more "seasons" starting May 1. I hope the park, in some form, will come back again, but based on how it looks now, It's best to just keep the memories of what was.

Old Guards?? I worked the commissary for several summers and worked as a lifeguard for three summers. Spent most of my summertime at old river from 1950 till my sophomore year in college. What a place and time to grow up in. Totally immersed in socialization - no high tech - just fun and lots of friends. Still have a great group photo of the "guards". Remember Mayberry and Bowers? How about " Mr. " Cuthbert? Blue guard trunks and white strap "A" shirts. Neat.

I worked in the 'cage' at the swimming pool in early 60s. Always had a crush on one or two lifeguards.
