You forgot to tell the truth...stop spreading lies trying to make yourself look like a victim held captive in our classrooms.
Teachers are not required to pay for classroom materials; there's a budget for all requested classroom resources for our students; and Springboro parents are weary of hearing teachers whine and complain throughout the community about the drudgery of
being employed in our great schools.

So, teachers don't grade papers at home? And yes, there is a budget for things that I mentioned and no, they aren't required to pay for anything - but there is not nearly enough money provided to teachers to support what needs to be done, so teachers go out and purchase more things on their own dime. As is always said - don't let the facts get in the way of a good argument.
And why is it that ANYONE who supports teachers has to be a teacher??? I am not a teacher, but you go on believeing whatever you want as I know you will.

Totally agree and it should be said again and again.
Springboro teachers and parents are so fortunate that our school district has the leadership skills and financial expertise of school district leaders working to assure a quality classroom education in the best interest of each student's potential achievement, while living within our means.
(What a big financial mess some area schools such as Fairborn
are facing, as reported in local news.)
It would be encouraging on this blog to read comments of respect and appreciation of employment in our schools. Instead, we read mostly complaints and false accusations that our teachers are unappreciated and underpaid; struggling through one day at a time, financially sacrificing themselves teaching our children.

Financial expertise of our district leaders? What expertise would that be? Simply traveling around the state saying you don't need new taxes is hardly any expertise exhibited there....

You get a 45 minute break everyday during a 7.25 hour day for "planning". You have kids acting as teacher's aides helping grade papers and running errands for you every day. Or having the kids grade each others papers in class.
Are you now telling me that you spend 3.6 hours per night, every night from Monday-Friday working on homework?
You do know that other professions bring their work home as well don't you? And most of them work more than 185 days per year.

Here is a fact for you, I sat in and watched and taped your school building principals go through the zero based budgeting program. The school board asked each of them to come to them with what was required by each classroom to do the job necessary to educate our children. The Budget and Finance Committee did not ding anything on the principal's lists.
If you did not bother to take the exercise seriously, then you get what you deserve. The school budget is large enough to support your need for more pencils, crayons, etc, etc. Next year do you job and complete the budget request appropriately.

And aren't we all weary of hearing you whine and complain about the inadequate teaching in the public traditional schools? Why not spend time with your child studying instead of expecting the state or local government to fill in every gap that you as a parent don't want to fill? Just as an athlete must practice on his own, a student must spend time outside of the classroom preparing and dedicating "free time" towards education. Responsible parents must encourage and support good study habits versus blaming the government for your child's shortcomings.

You really don't have a clue, do you? Walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you criticize. Just one question - have you ever been in a classroom during a school day and witnessed what goes on? A full day. Your child has 2-3 pieces of homework to do a night. Now multiply that by anywhere from 23-27 students in a classroom. 2-3 minutes to grade each paper - minimum. Not all papers are multiple choice. It starts to add up. Do kids sometimes grade each others papers? You bet. Does that happen all the time as you think - hardly.
And yes, some professions do bring work home. Most don't. And they are not criticized for being lazy, not working long enough hours, being money hungry...the list can go on.

What Springboro parents are hearing from Springboro Education Association members is "give us your offspring with a dollar
sign per pupil stamped on the forehead; and we'll give you a union teacher in every classroom, griping and complaining about being under-paid, under-praised, and being overly-critical of parents, constantly questioning parents IF we understand how difficult our boys and girls are to teach; while at the same time telling parents that the highly paid union teacher in every classroom is the most important resource in our child's education (even greater than the parents)....UNTIL it's time to send the child home for the parents to "teach" at home WHAT the teacher don't have time to do in the classroom? Isn't there something wrong with this picture of "social" justice for teachers RIGHTS to just show up at work, have a nice day, and then send their work home to the parents? As parents, our question to our teachers should be:
-Don't critize parents until you have walked in the shoes of hard working parents.- btw, teacher, have YOU spent a day in the workplace of parents .... working in the kitchens of our restaurants all day; driving through traffic congestion delivering packages into the late evening; working with patients in hospitals and nursing homes during the night shift; going door to door picking up garbage; going into city sewer lines to correct problems; working outdoors during the worst of weather conditions to restore electrical power....and on and on...
Get Real, teacher, and get to work earning your paycheck and bear your own burdens just like the rest of us working people.
It's just a job, and everybody has to work! Why not try
enjoy employment in our schools? We all know friends and relatives with teacing degrees and masters degrees that would LOVE to "suffer" through a day's work in the shoes of Springboro teachers!

Finding ways to methodically advance student achievement should always be everyones goal. Implementing academic reforms will, for example, reduce the present need for so many of our students needing to take college remediation courses. This, of course, will immediately translate into money saved for parents whose students attend Ohios colleges. And, in order to meet this challenge of higher academic quality, the current school Board of Education and District are, or already have plans to, invest heavily in technology, professional development for teachers, new textbooks, as well as new computers for every teacher, plus much more.
All this being said, there is a lot of work yet to be done to assure you (parents) that we will strive to do more than meet the minimum state requirements. The current Board of Education is dedicated to being advocates for every student striving to push the bar higher than other districts.
Some say theres no need to change because our district achieved an excellent with Distinction rating for our most recent school year. But we live in a world that is dynamic, a world of ever-evolving expectations and realities that require our constant attention. What once was an acceptable level of achievement is now a relic of the past that will ill serve our children and our taxpayers in the future.
As parents, we all desire that our children be provided the best we can afford. We constantly challenge our children with the hope that doing so will help prepare them for the world and better lives than we ourselves enjoy. We are also highly cognizant of the importance of true learning and greatly value education and the promise of what it may bring.
Everyone in the school community has more in common than they have differences. Let us meld that commonality to push forth a better school system than we enjoy today. We owe it to our children. Let us come together to push for real achievement and higher standards that we currently demand.

Given the latest news from Michigan regarding the passing of Right to Work legislation in that state it is encouraging to know that Ohio is right behind them. No longer should teachers be coerced into to participating in an organization that contradicts many teachers moral convictions. See links below. Forced unionism is a Marxist philosophy and has no place in Springboro. Yes a teacher can opt out but must still pay a large portion of the Membership dues. How about giving the teachers the ability to opt out and and pay nothing.
The Pro Union thugs that attend your meetings undermine and interfere with the Board's efforts of promoting fiscally responsible Pro Student/tax Payer initiatives. The noise they make always leads back to whats best for the teachers union interests with little concern for the Student or the Tax payer. Please understand I am thankful for the many great teachers in Springboro, its the Union who we have issues with.
Please do not cave to their Thug Tactics, the Community is behind you and appreciate your efforts to be fiscally responsible. Unelected Union Sympathizers have no platform to constantly harass the BOE members as they are neither Staff nor Union Members. As Union puppets their only purpose is create division and discontentment within the Schools and Community.

Check out what the NEA/Teachers Union stands for regarding Homosexuality, Liberal and Christian viewpoints. In my opinion Teachers Unions are like affirmative action, they force employers to compensate groups of individuals based on the demands of the group rather than individual performance/contributions. It is insulting to individual liberty and personal responsibility and is basically a legal form of extortion. Do we really want organizations with these kinds of radical agendas shaping our schools ideology?

Why is it that the posts regarding teachers reek of negativity. Teachers are greedy union thugs you say. Teachers don't work enough but get paid too much you say. Children fail because school testing standards are inadequate you say. The Board of Education however? The next risen Savior! They can provide children with more they say. They can provide the taxpayers with more they say. They know what's best for this community and your kids they say. If anyone questions this Board? Holy crap! Instant sin. Your name and the names of your family and friends will be thrown around topic. You will be accused of being disrespectful. A union activist. A disgrace. As an outsider you have to wonder what this Board thinks they can gain by condoning and helping to spread division in a community - all for the sake of our kids. I don't expect a response. I know all I will receive is accusations of being a whining teacher (I'm not) or a union activist. That's fine. I know my truth. I only wish the "so called" school leadership would be as transparent as they claim.

I haven't been critical of any of those jobs or professions you listed - so I don't need to walk a mile in their shoes - I have actually done two of the jobs you listed. Point was - walk a mile in their shoes before you are critical. What is your job? Ever get upset at someone who has never done your job before thinking you are not good at it? Or better yet, think they can do it better than you can?

I wish you had actually provided something of substance rather than blather. Whine, whine, whine, say nothing of import, and whine some more.
Please inform us, the great unwashed, what this board has done that is so horrible for our children?
Held people accountable for doing the jobs they are paid to perform?
Investing in a technology program that addresses the future and provides tangible results for the money spent?
Spent more on text books for our children?
Discovered the ruse that was pay to participate and reduced its costs by 30% and then gave the families that chose to participate another venue by which they could reduce it by another $100?
Hired a new Superintendent that is on the ball?
Hired a new Curriculum Director who is top notch?
Hired an actual Human Resources person who knows what she is doing?
Turned the cameras back on so the community could see what is going on and make up their own minds?
Pushed through a transparency program that now exists on our school website so everyone in the community can see what they see?
Etc, etc, etc
No which of those tasks do you wish to see undone?

And while you are whining, I am afraid I have not heard word one from you about the 2000 plus kids in our district who are not getting the education the taxpayers of this community are funding.
I hear not one word on how we can make this system better for all involved. This is not a zero sum game that force us to take from one to advance another.
Where are the union proposals to rectify this issue of issues?
