Problem is, first off, the law puts the responsibility on the adults--and for good reason. Regardless of the maturity of the body, emotionally a fifteen year old is in over his/her head in such a situation. Way too easy to be deluded by those unfamiliar feelings and to believe that they are LOVE, or that everything is under control, everyone does it, or any one of another exploitable fantasies.

The responsibility remains on the adults. No one if forcing them to make contact with someone they don't know well enough to have a clue about their age and setting up a sleazy encounter. Adults are expected to have the maturity to say, no, this does not make sense.

Get real parents, when I was 15, and older man tried REALLY hard to have his way with me, and the ONLY reason he had the opportunity is because my parents were too involved with their own lives to worry about what I was doing. And he was very clever, telling me everything that I wanted to hear, making me believe that he truly had my best interest at heart. These types of men are monsters. Thankfully I was able to get away from him. Parents, wake up and get real, if you don't want your baby girls to be victimized, you better truly focus on your young girls that are about to turn into women. You owe that to them, you brought them into this world!!!

Good Job Police ! Mom you did good in reporting this, but I'm curious what started this ? If my guess is right you better have a long hard talk to your daughter. It tales TWO to TANGO.

But that is the point of the laws that make it illegal for adults (18 and over) to have any kind of sexual relations with minors: the law presumes anyone under 18 is legally incapable of providing "consent". That being said, I agree with everyone else saying this girl was very likely NOT randomly texted - cell phone numbers aren't listed, so they got her number from someone, and it was very likely her. A lot of fifteen year old girls want very much to be - and therefore act like - full-fledged women, and a lot of them think a great way to do that is to have sex with men. Not to mention the songs, videos, movies, tv shows that tell them what a great idea it is to dress like a skank and have sex with guys. My guess is the girl in this case got cold feet, realized she could be getting herself into some trouble, and only then went to Mom or let mom "find" the phone.
all good points.part of my post looking back i realize i didn't articulate very well.my point was this."adult" material has and always will be the first industry to move into new technology.from nude pics on cave walls,to telephone sex,to the porn industry being the first film industry to embrace vcr's.the number one source of traffic on the net? porn.now we have cell phones with text and cameras.sexting and nude pics flying around.isn't it time we ask the tech industry for some responsible foresight and that safety features for parents are put in before the product comes out? last night the local news ran a story about this case, then ran a story of how a company will SELL you parental safety features.why aren't they available with the phone?

I found the same problem in purchasing phones for my kids. I wanted them to have phones for safety reasons, but at the same time, they introduced other risks--not the least of which was the phone company itself offering them myriad ways to run up the bill by making unauthorized purchases. Spent a really good long time chatting with the vendor about that. As it happens, more phone companies are including or offering various parent controls--so that parents can keep the good without letting in all of the bad. Some kids need a much tighter rein than others. It turns out that not only is there a market for this stuff (limiting acceptable phone numbers, GPS tracking, whatever) for parents of kids, but it is also helpful for the caregivers of folks who are elderly--another very vulnerable population with a need to hang on to some freedoms.

and i left one part out about the service you can buy.they recommend that you tell your kids that their phones will send you a warning if certain trigger words are texted.the example they showed was someone sending the words,"i have beer",beer was the word that triggered the text to be sent to mom's phone also.does anyone really think that if a kid knows the trigger words that will alert mom, they will use them anyway or will they use something like "i got pepsi"?or some other code words

This is really a sad thing. I am a step mother of a daughter whos "biological" parents apparently think that her cell phone texting is innocent and NO BIG DEAL. Well, I have to say that I have a 14 yr old daughter of my OWN and there is nothing "PRIVATE" about it. I pay for it, and I will look at it whenever I please. Parents give their children WAY to much room anymore. I have to say I agree with Jimmy....."Parents....sti nkin be Parents" not to say my child is perfect, because she is far from it...but God gave them to us to make sure they are safe and taken care of properly....not so that we could be their best friends and spare their feelings all of the time. I hate to tell ya...no matter if you check in on them all of the time or not......teenagers will find SOME reason to be MAD at their parents! To the mom in this case....I will keep you in my prayers that you get the whole story and can finally get to the bottom of this.
