Wicked accident footage. Good article too. These cameras are nothing short of automated highway robbery. I heard that almost all of the tickets that they issue are for people who don't come to a complete stop before turning on red. Mayor Zabrocki has been a great mayor as evidenced by business weeks naming Tinley Park the best place to raise kids so maybe he should be given a chance to address this mistake. I bet he also wanted the benefit of camera coverage on key intersections after the Lane Bryant murders, still the cameras are a mistake and a trespass against the people of Tinley Park. At the very least they should stop issuing citations for rolling right turns on red. If they don't address the issue, vote them out.

I agree. They have gone too far with these cameras. We should have cameras installed in every politicians office if they are going to insist on putting them up on the street. Think of all the crime that that could stop.

Heck yeah we should throw these politicians out of office. I do like the idea of putting cameras in their offices though. Here is a great story: http://www.dailyherald.com/story/...

RR, Thanks for the heads up, sometimes we drop the ball on those campaign contributions. While we admire your spunk on surveilling your selected officials with our nifty cameras, it's really not in our best interest.

"The Chicago Tribune reported Friday that accidents rose at half of the first 14 suburban intersections with red light cameras through the end of 2007. The problem is that some people slam on the brakes when they see the light turn yellow to avoid getting tickets. The cameras and the $100 tickets they generate are money makers for communities. Two lawmakers tell the newspaper the cameras basically just catch people rolling through right turns on red. They say that infraction rarely causes accidents, and they want to remove it from the jurisdiction of the red light camera." Major Scamage is right. Zabrockis Folly!

Hey if Americans are going to be pansies and let the government walk all over them I might as well get involved right? If you can't beat 'em... join 'em. There's a lot of money to be made every time some sucker rolls through a right turn on red!

Did anyone notice the way this poll was worded ("Are you happy") by definition makes it a leading question! lead·ing question (lēd′i& #331;) a question put in such a way as to suggest the answer sought. What's up with that?

Can't say I'm "happy" about it, but I understand why they did it. I really do not have a problem with the cameras. I think the politicians should come out and say why they were installed, and that is due to the revenue they generate. Tell it like it is, and stop acting like the word "revenue" is bad. Some towns have had parking meters for decades. People have been getting tickets ever since they were installed if they violate the meter. What's the difference with the cameras? And what's the difference between getting a ticket from an officer or getting a ticket from the camera? At least with the cameras, there is evidence of the violation (video showing the car going thru the light). People who don't violate the law do not get ticketed, and those who do can argue their case at a hearing. Of course it's about REVENUE. What is the problem with making people who break the law pay fines? The majority of the controversy would go away if the politicians would just admit that.

They've gone too far with these cameras, especially how they ticket you for the rolling right turns. I'm also offended that a corporation gets most of the money too. A foreign corporation at that. I will vote against the people who authorized these cameras.

Please... more surveillance of our daily lives! We live in fear and if only we could live under the watchful eyes of our most benefacting leaders we could rest at night. Track us and watch us and record all that we do for the good of everyone. I know it starts with the red light cameras, but could you please hurry up with the speed cameras too? And then maybe you could watch what I buy on my credit card and send me a reminder fine and a nice letter if I'm eating too much saturated fat? We NEED you big brother. We need you to protect us from ourselves even if it does cost us some money and result in no privacy at all. We're waiting for you to guide us.
