Are you talking about the Murder of Melvin Simms Jr.? The answer is NO!!! Mr. Donaldson does not want that attention brought to Hazel Crest during an election time.

The Southtown doesn't cover Hazel Crest. Call and ask them, that's exactly what they'll tell you

Then how do you explain them covering other things such as the mother suing the Stonebridge Condo Association or the sinking house on Wood Street?

You have to be correct in your info. The murder of the resident a couple of weeks ago wasn't the first in Hazel Crest.

That was the 3rd one in the last 4 years. In approx. March 2005 some kid was killed in HC Proper because he owed somebody about $20. Then almost exactly a year later some kids decided it would be a great idea to go to a house off 175th by the creek and rob the people inside because they were running some kind of cell phone/credit card scam. One of the kids was killed. The people running the scam were not charged with killing the kid. His friends were charged.

As for the Southtown not covering Hazel Crest. Call and ask them, that's what they'll tell you. Because when the paper was called about coming out to cover the 20 year anniversary of Waterford Estates the caller was told that "The Southtown doesn't cover Hazel Crest."

I think the poster of this is trying to say this homicide is the first of 2009. We ALL should know this isnt the first homicide in Hazel Crest's history.

I cant believe this kind of ignorance exists!!!! maybe you should find out the truth about a person before you trash them. i knew Melvin personally and he wasn't "good for nothing" or "unemployed." he was a hard working truck driver and he was also a good father. his murder was a senseless act of violence perpetrated by a coward. he is deeply missed by his mother, his kids and everyone who loved him and we dont need you soiling his name. its easy to tell why you sit behind a computer and try to pretend you know what your talking about, your just trying to cover up your own ignorance and low education. i hope karma comes back to haunt you!!!

If you knew him like you say you do, you would know he wasn't a joy to be around when the drink was poured up. I'm past believing this was a sensless incident, I mean loose lips sink ships and you should know that more than regular cargo was moving on those trucks. And i'll just say that if it was my ship that was in danger of sinking because some 'sailor' was running his mouth....well, makes sense to me. Not to bash your boy, and I'm always sad to hear of a child that loses a parent. Sorry things didn't work out too 'smooth' for your boy.

lets just always respect the name of someone who lost their lives too early. Its always someone's brother, sister, son, father or mother...let's just keep it at that.

my son went back to school to get his high school diploma he worked at a rehab center, until he got a better job, paying more money because he had a son he had to support,he than worked at nacme steel until the steel mills closed. he than went back to school, to get his C.D,L where he worked for Swift Transportation, where he graduated from driving across country, seeing his family every 3-6 weeks, he than worked for us express, where he again, drove across country, He than worked for ford motor co. where he could be home on week-ends until the drivers, thur the union voted not to take a cut in salary, and they lost the contract, my son moved from his apt. because the owners were converting the apt over to condo's and let them out of their lease my son moved back home, and paid me rent, since he was never there anyway. my son accomplished more in his short life, than you will ever accomplish in you life time He was never in jail and he had no FELONY iT WAS A SENSELESS MURDER, AND THE COWARD WHO SHOT HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD, WHEN HIS BACK WAS TURNED,HAS NOT GOT AWAY AND HE THOUGHT YOU WERE HIS FRIEND,I KEPT TELLING HIM YOU WERE NOT AND NOW MY SON IS DEAD, AND YOU'RE STILL HERE

Mama, if you know who did it, why to give him up? Melvin did have a criminal record. He stole your pistol when he was 13! Grieve but don't lie.

No matter what you feel about a person its still wrong. He is gone but never forgotten. He was a real man that took care of his mother. He was raised with respect, honesty, and dignity. Unlike your mother taught you. This is a time for his family to grieve not listen to your ignorance.

You need to be a little more wiser with your words, you never know who is reading this, the person you are talking about in this article is my uncle. You are very rude and disrespectful, you don't know him or his life, so please be mindful that this is a person and somebodies love one you are talking about. Its a lot more I really want to say to you but I am going to end this on God bless you and I hope no one talks about your murdered family member like you have mines.
