They showed the cut fiber optics cable lines on the news. The solar flare had no effect on a few counties in NM.

I am curious how 3 different fiber cables could have been cut at the same time, in various parts of the state. Someone was up to something.
There are redundant and divergent routes, so that one cut wouldn't cripple everything. Make one have to wonder if it has something to do with unhappy Qwest employees, over the sale to Century.
Also makes me wonder if at least one of the cuts had been there for a long time, but someone was asleep at the wheel.
Look who's been smoking crack, what an idiot. Life is a wonder to you.

Really, Canine? Why is that?
Am I the only one who thinks it's odd that there were three different fiber cuts, all at the same time, all at least a hundred miles apart?
On an average, it's normal for a communications company to have one fiber cut per year in an area the size of NM, but 3 all on the same day, at the very same time?!
Either they had their divergent path down for a period of time, with nobody checking, or someone put the screws to this company, in an organized manner.
Tell me where I am wrong on this!
I have to tell you, K9 is right. Slow down on that stuff.

I'm with you Lilliput, it was way earlier than 5 and was around Dr. Phil time (3:00 - 4:00) because that was on when internet service went down. Where do they get their mis-information?

I think the better question is why is Qwest disseminating misinformation. I'm with the pp --- there's GOT to be something else going on, it's way too cooincidental that all the lines got cut, at the same time, in separate locations. Plus, it affected not only Qwest customers, but Baja as well, and also cell phones.

That's because those fiber optics lines are leased by Baja and other companies.

I didn't know about Baja leasing the line --- thanks for the info. What about the lines being cut simultaneously in different locations? Explanation?

Preliminary findings of a New Mexico
Public Regulation Commission investigation into a
massive communications outage that stopped
telephone and Internet service Tuesday to most of
southern New Mexico show that a request to
relocate a fiber-optic cable near San Antonio, N.M., was not submitted before digging began by the Army Corps of Engineers.
...
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was drilling for
soil samples at a site about 18 miles south of
Socorro when a Qwest fiber-optics cable was cut, about 10 a.m. Tuesday. Any excavation that is done in New Mexico requires that a permit be obtained through the PRC. Companies, like Qwest, who have utility lines on properties are then required to go to that location and identify where their lines are.

A redundant fiber-optic cable near Tijeras, N.M.,
which was used to re-route communications
services after the line near Socorro was cut, was
severed shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday. Jones said a permit request to relocate that line was submitted to the PRC by a private construction company who was installing a water line.
...
Wednesday, Jones said a third fiber-optics cable,
near Clovis, was also cut on Tuesday. However,
there were no immediate indications that incident
contributed to the widespread outage experienced throughout southern New Mexico.
