Walmart, McDonald's etc. is what people first see when they come into town from a couple of different directions. Simply speaking, not too inviting, unfortunately. BTW, what ever happened to Walmart's own idea of building the Ti store in an "Adirondack style?" Hmmm...
And then, you have the same old environmental problems that we've had for many decades--the river and Lake Champlain are absolutely cancerous! And yes, it's very sad.
Lake George? It's sooo touristy. I stayed in a very nice camp once,(which is something that is out of most people's range--and mine, too, now), and woke up very early every morning to the sound of very large motorboats and jet skis. Ugh!
As for the Fort, I'm just not paying $17 dollars to walk up a dirt road from a pasture. So, I'm not taking out-of-town family and friends there any longer.
There are a lot of issues and a lot of work to do.
All you have said here is true, and if the APA has done nothing to maintain our waterways then what good is it? We're an overpriced tourist-trap with hyper-regulating state and federal agencies that scare new enterprises away. We have unlimited potential in this mostly undiscovered paradise but until we are free to exploit them we are going nowhere fast.

Well, that's a polite way to put it.

And yet, they okayed the building of that ugly NCCC branch building on that very nice open, grassy area overlooking the park. People used to sit there on the 4th of July, among other things.

What was that about? Well, that structure was supposed to be built behind the hospital, exactly where it would make sense for it to be. BUT, a favor was called in by some people who didn't want it there (NIMBY), and the "Town" called the then-President of NCCC in Saranac and was...okay, it was just completely past nasty. I'm sure it is a conversation that she (the then-President) won't forget for a long time. And, I haven't forgotten this story either. Absolutely shameful!

So, how do you make positive changes when you are dealing with this kind of mentality? Let's just call it what it is, please.

<quoted text>I agree with you completely. The town officials could do something about the state of the buildings downtown, but it would be a fight and it does not appear that they have the stomach for it.

I actually think it's probably more appropriate not to poke fun at people's personal problems - and poking fun at Wal Mart. But believe me my attempts at humor are, if anything, directed at Wal Mart not directed at the town of Ti. I think I've stressed a fair amount that I agree with the people here that would like to see Ti revitalized - my "attempt" at humor in my last post was merely a comical gag based on the fact that it's tough work trying to think what might work for the town, is all... sometimes there's more insight in off-hand humor than you might think.

Do you think either the local bars or the town could control what goes on in their parking lots, especially during the warm weather months?

We came home from a late dinner out of town with some relatives and friends, drove by the Burleigh House on the way home, and there they were. People standing around yelling at or to each other, smoking pot right out in public, drinking their drinks outside, you name it.

No class whatsoever. It's embarrassing, and disgusting.
