The 4th person running is Bob Paladrani, Jr. I think Mark Russell and Bill Grinnell should stay on, and keep Palandrani on too. Tracy would be a nightmare on the board!

To be on the board of a corporation, usually happens when you sre a industry leader. To be on the school board I think your credentials should include a Masters degree and some background working in education. Does any of the canidates have any type of a college degree? I dont think they do and thats scary.

Tracey Cross-Baker has at least 2 different degrees IN EDUCATION. And she is PRO ACCOUNTABILITY. Go on line to the Plattsburgh Press and read the article they put in their paper on the candidates..She knows state requirements for students AND school systems. Probably why they feel she would be "a nightmare" on the board. Accountability is not something any of the board members are comfortable with...

She has a vendetta against the board. Having her on will be a nightmare much like having Bill Grinell has been

I feel Tracey has the desire to make change beneficial to our kids. If that is a vendetta in your book, so be it. I call it pro-active initiative. And, I feel that is what is needed at the school She has my vote. So I guess we will cancel each other out. That is called democracy.

If you want change we need someone new in there and the only way to defeat incumbants is to bullet vote for her, this way her vote is not diluted. Russell at least replied to the Post Star but did not answer on relatives working in the district. Paladrini did not return the questionaire, but also has many relatives working in the district.

Every school board member or candidate has family, close friends, or some relationship to someone that works in the district. As a matter of fact the town board has family, friends or other relationships to town employees.

Perhaps people want to contribute and try to make a positive difference. The fact that people get involved is not always a conspiracy.

That type of situation is not uncommon in a small town. This is an open public office and election. Anyone can run or at least get involved if they have ideas to share or questions.

Do people really think the school board, administrators, teachers, or most parents get on Topix to see what the key concerns, good ideas, or feedback of the public is?

Seriously.

I nominate John Graves. Based on your qualifications of only needing to be elected then he qualifies also.

Your response of trying to justify non degreed, candidates with no background in education is just as crazy as mine.

We always compromise and accept less than marginal candidates because no one else wants it. This is why Ticonderoga continues to die a slow death.

Anyone can run, it does not mean they will get elected or should. Just because someone has a degree does not necessarily make them a good candidate.

It takes a good skill set and a degree could help provide some of those skills but so could a variety of like experiences and balance.

You can draft an amazing resume based on education, organizations you belong to, and places you worked.

If someone does not have extended employment in any one place or for example did not get hired after interviewing for jobs in several places did that degree help them?

It has been stated that educators make good board members. What if they were never granted tenure or left multiple positions, does that make them a good educator just because they have some experience?

Someone can have a list of eight degrees in a large number of areas. What if they have zero practical or vocational experience? How can they relate to other parts of our student population?

Some people get things handed to them in life and never get their hands dirty or had to work hard for what they have because it was handed to them, does that make them a good candidate?

Perspective, dedication, approachable, involved, supportive, there are a range of characteristics that are beneficial.

I like to look at a number of aspects of the candidates involved to based my vote.

Feedback ,I agree. There are mnany different ways to view a candidate. The characteristics you listed are as important as the eduational back- ground they have. An educated voter is as important as a qualified candidate. If you are pleased with the current board, vote the incumbents. If not, vote in new people. It is that simple.
And before throwing "facts" on topix, retired, be sure you are correct.

Just because someone has a degree does not necessarily make someone a good teacher. Or administrator.

Most do have degrees and all hold long term successful positions, which is more than I can say for most of the people in Ti. And so what if they are related to school employees it isn't like they make decisions alone it is all voted on and if it comes down to a decision directly affecting a family member they abstain from voting. If anyone on this site went to a meeting they would see that. Stop by the high school office and get a copy of the minutes, you can see it in black and white, happens every few votes.
