Does anyone know what the personal foul on fourth and nine in overtime of a championship game was called for? I'm assuming it was pass interference but why was it called a personal foul. IMO it was the differance maker in the game. If Moriah doesn't get that call I beleive Ti would have won the game.

they called it that the defender blocked the vision of the ball.. the defender never touched the moriah player at all. sounds a little fishy to me.

what a game !!!! too bad Ti could not play in a fair game !!! Nothing against Moriah but how can you possibly play against the refs too !!!! Evenly matched game however, is was a Ticonderoga game all night a terrible call in the end zone changed the outcome of the game I can not understand why the boys just can't play the game just to play !the best team did not win in this case.Nobody wins in a game where the refs decide who should win !!!!!

Great game to both teams. Congratulations Moriah. Sorry that there are so many people that have to talk crap about a kids game but thats how it is around here. Parents expect their kids to grow up into respectable adults but I dont know how thats possible when the parents are teaching them to be poor losers and talk smack everytime they lose. If they lose its always someone else fault every single time. Just tell your kids good game, way to try your hardest and get over it!

How do you block the vision of the ball? The defender was trying to make a play on the ball,of course he is going to have his hands up at eye level. Bad call on a bad rule at the worst (sectional championship) possible time. Both teams played an outstanding game escecially on D, to bad the same couldn't be said about the refs. I realize the victors will say that I am just whining and making excuses(you are entitled to your own opinion also) but there were some pretty boneheaded mistakes by the refs that in the end(no pun intended) cost Ti the game.

MINEVILLE Moriah used Nick Gilbo largely as a blocking back in the first half Friday.

In the second half, the Vikings put the ball in Gilbo's hands, and he delivered.

The senior fullback ran for two touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, and Zack DeSimone picked off a pass to seal a 14-7 win over Ticonderoga in the Section VII/X Class D championship game. It's the Vikings third consecutive title.

Moriah trailed at halftime and didn't score until late in the third quarter.

"I was scared. But we came through," Gilbo said. "We fought hard. We played five quarters of football.

"And thank God we came out with the victory. Thank the Lord."

Moriah (8-1) will play Cambridge in a regional game next weekend.

The Vikings closed the third quarter with a 59-yard scoring drive during which Gilbo carried the ball on nine of the 12 plays. His last run was for a touchdown from the 1, and Ryan Mascarenas' kick tied it, 7-7.

Ticonderoga (6-4) and Moriah both had a possession in the last three minutes of the fourth quarter, and neither got close to the end zone.

The Vikings got the ball first in the extra session, starting on Ticonderoga's 20. They had an incomplete pass on fourth-and-9, but a personal-foul penalty against the Sentinels kept the drive alive. Gilbo eventually punched it in from a few inches out on fourth down, and Mascarenas hit the PAT.

Ticonderoga got as close as the 2-yard line, and then on third-and-goal from the 4, DeSimone got his hands on Miles Austin's pass in the end zone.

Gilbo had 23 yards on 10 carries in the first half and finished with 88 yards on 30 attempts. He also grabbed an interception and caught the Vikings' only successful pass.

"Nick is a senior stud. And you ride the 245-pounder, I guess," Moriah coach Don Tesar said. "Nick's a great lead blocker, a good runner, and he's a super middle linebacker too."

Tom Ida ran for 79 yards, and DeSimone had 26.

The Vikings held the Sentinels to 20 yards of offense after halftime.

Ticonderoga's defense set the tone for the first half when it stopped Moriah on fourth-and-inches on its opening drive. The Sentinels also recovered a fumble on their own 9 and kept the Vikings from scoring when they had a first-and-goal from the 6 with about a minute left in the first half.

The Sentinels took the lead when Dan Morrison broke through the right side for a 65-yard touchdown run as time ran out in the first quarter.

Morrison led all rushers with 91 yards on 15 carries.

"I thought our kids played very well," Ticonderoga coach Bob Sutphen said. "Very proud of them.

"There were two good defenses playing, and that's pretty much what we expected, except we expected to come out on top and we were just a little bit short."

I would just like to add that I am not from here so I am not on either side. I just like to see a good game for the kids. Its a great experience for all involved weather you win or lose. Both are terrific teams that played hard and earned their way. I am just saying I believe that we should be teaching sportsmanship not to point fingers, blame others, and be angry. Again congrats to Moriah, and good luck on the games to come.
