Get with the times. Most companies now allow their employees to dress business casual. When I worked, it was coat and tie. Now it is slacks and jeans. My son is an advertising executive. When I remarked about his dress going into the office, he told me that coats and ties were only worn when a presentation or business meeting is scheduled.
His salary is double what mine was when I retired. When you inherit a dysfunctional business or operation, you have to make tough choices and do not initially make many friends. Once things get better, attitudes change because they see the results. Give Bill time.

Until you have all of the information, it is difficult to make judgments. However, yes! we ALL know about the very big problem with family hiring family and friends. That's not even a topic to discuss, except for--as someone else mentioned--how to put a stop to it. Are the administrators of our institutions going to have the courage to implement an anti-nepotism policy? I have very serious doubts. Do you see the courage? I just don't.

This is just one serious problem with the school system, for example. But, what are you going to do about the people who already have a job (or tenure) and at the same time aren't, and never were, the best candidate(s) that could be teaching your child?(And, with the current Governor, there's not a chance in hell of fixing the ridiculously bad idea of tenure.)

It's the same with the town, the highway department, the landfill, etc. etc. Unless policy is changed, it will never get any better. Think about it.

Under NYS law, the Town Supervisor does not have the legal authority to hire and fire staff. Those decisions can only be made by the Town Board as a whole.

Anti-nepotism policy? Your joking. The town just elected Fred Hundson. His son and son in law work for the highway, and he is a committee member. Do not blame leadership for following your own lead.

<quoted text>I take issue with that, no they don't get directly compensated, but when their spouse, sibling,or other party that's close to them reaps the benefit of a job,or a raise ,or other perk then they surely benefit. Do you really think they vote in raises that are way out of line with the raises the rest of us get without a "dog in the fight"?Do you have a clue? I'm not going to hijack this thread by naming names and going into who's kid gets hired, or who's related to whom,It's a small town ,we all know anyway, as textbook a case of nepotism as ever there was! Sadly they have hired so many "friends and family" that they have a voting block so large it's hard to overcome. And as for this thread,of course Bill dresses like a lumber jack, the majority of men in Ti dress the same,I call them taxpayers, Bill calls them "constituents" If you find that offensive the maybe Clifton Park is more your style,it's still a "mill town" Einstein.
