Traveling through Whitehall, New York, I noticed the large billboard with the very "touristy" sign about coming to see the Fort on account of its ghosts.
Also, having the dinners at the Fort in the evening - nice, but going overboard though I would probably enjoy one there in the loghouse.
Whoever came up with this angle is a flaming idiot and should be immediatly removed from anything to do with the fort. This is original American history and someonre actually thinks it is a good idea to push the feeble ghost angle??? AS long as they are at it why don't they say that mountain lions have been spotted on the fort property. That should draw every moron with an IQ less than 75 to the fort. You mention mountain lion sightings on topix and every nut job in thy area wades in with their latest sighting.

That whole marketing angle that the fort is going with right now, sucks. Who is their marketing department? They should be fired.

"America's Fort & Corn Maze??? Yes, more made up history to destroy any shred of dignity the fort had remaining.

Beth Hill is off her rocker! Perhaps, she has never heard of a little place called Fort McHenry. I guess Fort Ti in the eyes of the marketing department gave our country a better National Anthem.

The corn maze is a great idea if you're running a farm stand, but it contridicts the statment of America's Fort - really no thought there.

Another sad season ahead with even less signs of intelligence

The Fort is following the template of other 'historic preservation zones' such as the
Plimouth Plantation in Plymouth, Mass. Owned and
operated by the state, the re-enactors stare at you in stark contempt if you try talking in modern language either to or in front of them.

The Fort has been one messed up place for a couple of decades now. Basically since John Pell died.

Just goes to show you that you can't buy brains! Indeed!

Tear down the Pavillion? They can't do that. They will use the place as a way to bring-in restoration money to pay for other things: horse barns, new porch in Bitch's house, etc.

It doesn't revolve around alcohol anymore. You people who haven't worked there, have absolutely no knowledge of what is going on, and I bet you do not know any history of Fort Ticonderoga, only that Ethan Allen/Bendict Arnold captured it. Write about something you know about....Wise asses

At one time this wonderful recreation had a bright and promising future.

Sadly, that is no longer the case with the present stewardship of the fort.

I'm not much for finger pointing nor blaming any particular person, but instead place the blame on the current trustees and the execuitve director.

This is the group that has control and is able to bring about change; however, they've elected to pursue Alice even further down the rabbitt hole.

All historic sites are in a struggle for survival in the present economy and will be for years ahead.

My observation is that there is no method in place to secure the future.

These are the "Hill" years and it will be either over the hill, under the hill, or on top of the hill for Fort Ti.

When you are sliding down that rabbit hole you are under the Hill. Under the Hill, people have lost their jobs, their hours cut in half or their position adjusted and their facial hair removed. The encampment this weekend was a "JOKE". The reenactors {entire units}, have boycotted the event. They are all following the west brook to Fort#4 in NH. Crown Point will win this battle. They will no longer struggle under Fort Ticonderoga's large budget and large staff, the kiss of beth will leave Fort[Ti] in ruin.

Those so-calld encampments were always a joke--but what else are you going to have when you're dealing with a bunch of dysfunctional, half-wits who come to spend 72 hours on a cheap beer bender.

Let them take their ridiculous behavior elsewhere. Re-enactments are yesterday's news, anyway.

Oh, and figure it out: The Fort had been operating way, way past its means for years. Years! It's no wonder since every kiss-ass AND their wife (or boyfriend) was on the payroll. Bad and stupid fiscal policy!!

What does Crown Point have to do with this? If you are referring to the fort there, that site is a state-funded operation. Fort Ticonderoga is not. So??? Do you want an apple or an orange? And furthermore, when did this become a contest?

"just plain silly" to eat an apple with a worm hanging out of it, when you have a perfectly good orange. And furthermore, I think the contest started when Ticonderoga was part of Crown Point, or maybe "where did S.de Champlain push his canoe a shore?" It's no contest when the bully throws you off the field. The reenactors pick the orange and the apple will rot...maybe the state running Fort Ticonderoga would be the best thing.

I think most of the recent comments are right on...both pros and cons of the new management. I am certain Beth has the the best intentions for the fort and want it to be sucessful. Her methods however have rubbed some the wrong way. The attempts to tighten the ship have perhaps left it up a creek with out a paddle. Some units refused to participate in this years event (not because of the new rule, but rather because of how they were relayed) This lead to one of the lowest attended events and now I have heard it said that there will be no 2012 F&I event. This is not progress! Some are happy with it, but what about the income of the fort...It's already hurting, what about the tourism and community business. I hope it all works out. The fort needs good turn out + good quality reenacting...Good Luck Beth. Hope ya know what your doing, cause I love it there and would hate to see it go down the crapper.

I seen Bob Bearor's comments concerning Ft. Ti in the Times Of Ti (Aug 27). I think he is "Right On" about his statements. However, his comments about the Times of Ti being controlled by the Fort's admin. probally isn't exact. What I think is that the fort is bombarding the paper with all sorts of stories to put on a good face. Nevertheless, all good points made by him. Many in the community that Bob mentioned have devoted years of their lives to bringing history alive in the town and it just took one person to kill it.
