Is this the problem?

With all the money being thrown around Essex County, all the taxpayers that I know would like to see MORE money spent on drug investigations, arrests and REAL prosecutions. And yes--special attention needs to be paid to Medicaid/Medicare (welfare) funded drugs. Harsher punishment!

But, first we have to look into how the County is "managing" the money:

“I am very frugal in how our monies get spent,” Sprague said.

"Sprague said she has had to turn down requests from local police departments needing equipment or cash."

There is a budget. Yes, some of that budget is for salaries and benefits. I wonder, how much is spent on salaries and benefits and how much is spent on investigations and so forth?? Hmmm...

't that what the the article said? Really? Well maybe they should come down from Franklin County and teach the local PD (and the DA) some LISTENING skills. People do report...and report...and nothing.

For all the money we're spending on the PD, WE should be seeing the kind of bust that just took place in Franklin County. And, the DA and local judges aren't helping much with their wrist slaps. God help us...

When is the next DA office election? We need someone to take Essex County's drug problem a LOT more seriously!

If you are really concerned about drugs, it is pot harvest time right now! Find a field that is being cultivated by the local druggies and turn it in! Better yet, take a large can of gas out there with you and toast some marshmallows. Your choice whether to sit upwind.

You people are pathetic and especially you phank. Understandably taking cocaine and heroin off the streets would be superb but we live in ticonderoga and there really isnt too many big time cartels in the area. And as for pot harvest there are now several states where it is legal to cultivate and sell marijuana for adults, and as a medicine for people with cancer, ms, etc. The federal gov't is starting to realize that all they re doing is wasting their time and money and backing down from being so strict on this "drug war" and leaving it up to the states themselves to take charge. No matter how many people you get off these streets here or anywhere for that matter there is just as many more who still sell or use drugs, it will never stop no matter what the state or gov't tries to do. If you arent doing the drugs and arent affected by them first hand then just mind your own i realize that is something very difficult for people like you from ticonderoga, you just have nothing better to do then worry about everyone else's lives when im sure you have plenty of skeletons in your closets as well.

Oh and besides kristy s. and the town have to spend their monies on new police cars so each cop has their own, since they just got a brand new cruiser, and for dan lafrance to ride around with garrett p. in a police car at 8 in the morning getting wasted and cool stuff like that, but they are police so i guess they can do what they want. hahaha. this town and the police force are truly pathetic. And that is a true story.

Still waiting...for Essex County to at least TRY to do what Franklin County is doing very well, apparently. Still waiting...for them to pick up the scum that are selling MEDICAID funded pills. Paid for by the taxpayers. Still waiting...

So then, the public needs to put pressure where the pressure belongs.

And, I agree. The drug problem is spiraling out of control, just like it says in the news article.

But, where is the support from Ti's town officials? I haven't heard one single word. Not one. The PD needs support from the public, from the Supervisor, the Board, the School Board, from our local judges and the DA's office. God help us and our children!

Family units fragmented, education system falling apart. Demoralized public failing to get energized for even the smallest cause for even the minimal amount of time. Drug busts serve no purpose whatsoever. Learn them junkies good before we throws away the key.

I say your very wrong! At the very least, incarceration will get the junkie clean, unless they have an inside prison connection. Then, maybe, just maybe, the detox process will teach them what it feels like to be clear thinking and the maybe they will want to have a chance at a real life. Rehab, as it "functions" today, is useless for most people, and a BIG waste of tax dollars.

Busting them, then just slapping them on the wrist, or ordering them to rehab or community service is just absolutely stupid on the part of the judges and the DA!

As for repeat offenders, NO county jail. Prison.

P.S. Also, investigations of doctors is very much needed and so often ignored or overlooked. Any pharmacy can point the police to the doctors who are "free" with their prescription pads. We ALL know they are out there just making the problem worse.

Maybe we can't get anywhere with our fight against drugs, our attempts to keep our children safe because those in authority have THEIR OWN DRUG PROBLEMS!(And alcohol.)

What do you think?

ALL state employees should be drug tested, including anyone who is paid with any tax dollars. This includes contactors. Teachers. Doctors and nurses, e.g., Medicaid/Medicare funded. Etc.
