You simply cannot compare Ticonderoga to Lake Placid! These are two townships that have nothing in common. Lake Placid has history, culture structures, infrastructure, a very nice downtown etc. etc. that Ti does not have and will never have.
They desire and need to keep and protect their community as lovely as it is, IF they ever want to host the Olympics again. They sent Walmart packing (by court order) for a reason! They have people are educated, talented and forward-thinking in charge.
Or in your terms, they have real, healthy apples. Ti has rotten apples.(And, it's Ti's own fault.)
Just a bunch of old hippie trust-fund babies they didn't have room for in Vermont. They filled Walmart's void with crappy strip malls and overpriced boutique shops......oh wow, man! You can keep the Olympics in Athens while you're at it. Nothing but a pain-in-the-ass boondoggle wherever it lands.

I don't like rotten fruit, bring on the fresh healthy fruit. Where are they?? If your metaphor is true, we should soon be hearing about a new cast of educated, insightful public servants coming on scene. I can't wait to see what magic they bring when they arrive.

I don't think it's the posters fault - I think Topix is set up to encapsulate posts from neighboring zip codes together.
I could be wrong but I think that's how it works.

Other than that, you are right though but what happens in Ti can affect Port Henry. The Aubuchon closing shortly after the giant Lowes opened up being a good example - now leaving us without a very useful hardware store even now that Lowes has closed is a good example...

Now to change the subject: Did anyone attend the TFCU banquet last Friday and if so, what did you think of it. I thought it was pretty bad.

Driving into Ti I was welcome with the most vile smell coming from the Mill, you know the place that hardly pays any taxes and pollutes the entire region.

Stayed at the Motel 8, smells like mold inside...yuck!

No where to eat a decent meal, had Mcdonalds..yeesch.

Anyway I see Treadway is gone and Ti looks worse than ever, same dregs running around, same expensive Police Force, and Walmart just brimming with EBT card holders filling their carts with Mountain Dew and HoHo's.

Ti is a still a depressing place and I thank my lucky stars I left!

Just like they say in Maine-- Welcome -- now go home-- hey if you don't like the place-- why do you come? We don't need people like you in our town!! Go home and stay there!

Our Fire Department tax rate is less than 11 out of the other 17 towns. the budget may be higher but we have a very good fire department and with the equipment they have your fire insurance stays low. They have the best ISO rating (which insurance companies base your premium on) a volunteer fire department can get. You cannot fairly compare all fire departments. We have the second highest call volumes in the county with Lake Placid being first. They offer more services than other departments do based on the needs of the community they serve, ie: water rescue training and equipment, the Lewis fire department doesn't need to offer that cause they have no bodies of water but Ticonderoga does! The Westport Fire Department does not need a 100' Aerial Truck because they don't have any buildings that high, but Ticonderoga has several buildings that need a ladder truck to reach!). So its very difficult to compare fire departments but when you look at the rates Ticonderoga is lower than most. Heck, The people that live in Chilson are paying $0.99/1000 assessed value and look what they get, Ticonderoga pays $0.68/1000 and look what you get! As far as Police services, you think crime and drugs are bad now, try not having a police department in town 24 hours a day. It will be 100 times worse. Yes State Police will come but if someone is breaking into your house or your neighbor is having a domestic and its physical don't you want to wait 30 or 40 minutes? I doubt it! I agree that the general taxes are an issue and there are certainly places that can be adjusted and ways to save but public safety is not one of them!
