Leaving TI and NY

Ticonderoga, NY

#1 Dec 19, 2012
Well it's time for me to leave Ticonderoga and the State of New York. All I can say is I have had enough.
New York State and Ticonderoga are a complete mess.
It saddens me to have to leave here after nearly a decade of attempting to change things for the better.
I have been fighting the Zoning, the Tax assessment and the School budget.
It appears that The Mill and Walmart basically own this town and nothing is going to change that.
You have the same people in charge year after year after year and they are brought the town down due to serving their own personal interests.
You have a Town Board and School board biased that in effect will run more people out of here due to their refusal to discuss issues that effect all the residents of Ti.
C'mon people we all know WALMART put the final nail in the coffin and the Mill continues to spew it's toxic stench over the entire town.
Neither the Mill or Walmart pay their fair share in taxes, if they did then your taxes would not have gone up at all in fact they would be very low.
Economically speaking things are very bad all over with the exception of a few forward thinking states.
It saddens me to leave here but eventually after 8 years of " Same old crap" to stay would be foolish.
I love Ticonderoga and it's such a beautiful place with unlimited potential but there are literally a few dozen people entrenched here that are ruining it everyone else.
My prediction for Ticonderoga is a continuing MASS EXODUS as people like me have given up.
New York as a whole is also so corrupt, from all the Judicial Branches, to State and local gov't it is bloated and cannot continue on the path it's on as it's penalizes small business and has a shrinking tax base.
I will be back to visit time to time because I own a great deal of property here, in the time I have been here I saw an attempt to bring business into the town but it was an epic fail due to HIGH TAXES and too many welfare zombie scum walking the streets and the constant harassment of law abiding citizens by the police.
Farewell and may god be with you all.

Drug induced zombies walking the streets is the normal thing in Ti. Ti has some that cannot walk, but they can sell their pills and make a good buck.

You are right that is ti tax rate is the highest in the county, but you need to remember the reasons why your tax rates are high, you have a fire department that has the highest budget in the whole county for what reason? Why does Ti need some much money in their fire department and other towns do just fine with much less. You have a police force that is in my mind to big for the size of your town. Moriah has two cops for a town that only has about 400 people less than you do. You have state police in Schroon lake that can get to Ti faster than the state police can get to Moriah from Lewis. Your highway department last I checked was about the same as most towns your size so its not that. The problem in Ti isn't the lack of taxes being paid by stores or the Mill its the lack of spending control and a huge budget and the lack of will power for someone to get some balls and start cutting back on theses budgets.

You can go to Texas or Nevada or a few other places to escape some of this crap for awhile. Rest assured though, there ain't nowhere you can go to hide from Leviathan's grasp forever.

Before you move out of new York, if you're a deviant sexual pervert, go ahead and get married. Get that marriage license before you sodomize. Tell them Andy Cuomo sent you.

Very good points and no one will address them how per capita Ticonderoga is charging rates for services above and beyond the norm.

I also think that the town is overrun with "WELFARE CHEATS" and the town and school board has an "US AGAINST THEM" mentality.

I am not trying to escape as much as cut my losses and try something new and fresh.

It appears as though anyone with any skills and good ideas is immediately shot down by the "select few" that have held this town in a choke hold for the last 30 years.

It saddens me to go but I came to the realization that I am wasting my time and talents here trying to help people that are more concerned with a "30 pack" then trying to bring the town up out of the gutter.

Stupid is as stupid does and this town is full of them.

Another thing is the backstabbing and crap talk that goes on, surprised to see this in the Methodist Church as well, which I also felt was very disheartening, but since that church has ties the Catholic church it doesn't surprise me.

You can judge a tree by it's fruit.

Good luck in finding that utopian paradise where all politicians are upright, honest, love their mothers, brush their teeth and say their prayers daily. Write a letter to the editor of the Times when you find that perfect place and let us all know where it is and how yu're adjusting to it. Not to worry though, the end of the world is upon us Mayans - only hours until

There ARE definitely some places that are better than others. No, there is no perfect place. However, of all the many states and cities that I have lived in--many, Ticonderoga definitely has the worst possible case of "good ole boys" club mentality and machinery. Not even a close competitor.

It's very sad for all of us who would like to love our hometown and find it bittersweet.

It seems people are way quicker to judge then they are to help. If you run your mouth about somebody instead of encouraging them to better their life what are the odds they are gonna drop what they are doing? Nobody in this town is perfect no matter how much money they make. Ticonderoga will never become a better town with everybody running each other into the ground. The tax rates are sky high and questionably controlled, the lachute doesn't even deserve to be called a freshwater river and drugs are rampant. There isn't much sense of community here anymore.
When the people who truly love Ticonderoga are all gone, Ti will no longer be a town to love. The people of Ti deserve better and like it not even the "aristocrats" and "leadership" have to shoulder some of that blame.

Our tax rate is the highest in the county....the poorest county in NY State. Be glad you have a great public school system, a stellar emergency response system, and the only large-scale employer in the county.

If you want to move, go ahead. You probably don't pay taxes anyway.

Happy Holidays!

angus young, you are wrong about the only large scale employer in the county. Mountain Lake Services has more employees than the mill, also so does Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) which employees over 700 people for over 6 months out of the year. Also hamilton county is the poorest in the state. And to add your school is good yes, but what do you say about crown point who spends half the amount per student Ti does and scores higher on the test than your kids?

what facts am I wrong about? I used the 2010 census to get the population. Moriah Does only have two cops vs Ti's how many?, Your fire department budget is way higher than towns around in essex county, your town highway department is about the same size as Moriah. State Troopers can get to TI faster than they can get to Moriah from there central locations. And walmart and the Mill pay a good deal of taxes. What am I so wrong about????? Please explain Your tax rate is over 4 bucks per thousand most other towns are in the low 2 dollars per thousand FACTS from the County website!

i researched 2012 facts. use some that are more current. Look at some of the different services offered/needed. Ti is comparable to Lake Placid/North Elba regarding Fire. There's is almost double of Ti's They have a couple paid drivers and the assesment is almost triple. Compare apples with apples. Do your research completely

Nor even New YOrk State, thanks to the Governor and the good elected officials (smarter than the voters who elected them) who believe that if they only get rid of assault weapons, NO ONE WILL EVER BE ASSAULTED again. Guns DO kill people, you know. People are just putty in the presence of guns and are simply not bright enough to control themselves and the governor knows that.

You simply cannot compare Ticonderoga to Lake Placid! These are two townships that have nothing in common. Lake Placid has history, culture structures, infrastructure, a very nice downtown etc. etc. that Ti does not have and will never have.

They desire and need to keep and protect their community as lovely as it is, IF they ever want to host the Olympics again. They sent Walmart packing (by court order) for a reason! They have people are educated, talented and forward-thinking in charge.

Or in your terms, they have real, healthy apples. Ti has rotten apples.(And, it's Ti's own fault.)

And, that you for an intelligent post. Ti will NEVER be Lake Placid, or Bolton or any other place that is actually taken care of. Sad.
