whats up with a petition to get a school zone speed zone on the portage for a private house? It's simple solution park on house side of road unload kids on the side walk and walk in. Why bother the town board with a B.S issue like this. The morons who park across the street causes a bottle neck they are more of issue on traffic then anything else.

Maybe because my 8 year old grand daughter was seriously injured when hit by a car in front of my house on Octoer 30th. Not a B.S. issue to me, my grand-daughter, or any of the people that care about her. If you need more informtion to help you understand our interest in this petition, feel free to call me.

Was the kid in the road or the car up on the sidewalk? Sounds like parental failure to me. Teach them all about how wonderful the gay/lesbian lifestyle is, but neglect to teach them how to cross the street.

How can you have a school in a residential area like that and not have a parking lot?? I have driven on the portage thousands of times. The problem is not the cars traveling through there. The issue is the cars that are parked on both sides of the road and the people jumping out at you! It's certainly not a place I'm willing to send my children!

I avoid the street from 9am on its dangerous. You crest the small hill by Doctor Cooks and gain speed in time to come across a one lane road due to parked cars with kids everywhere and distracted parents. Was saddened a child was hit, however not a but shocked when I heard the location. Feel just as bad for the driver, not all his fault.

If you don't like the idea of slowing down, don't sign the petition. That's the whole point. I do believe with the good business Marge does she should consider a parking lot of sorts. If that can't happen is it really to difficult to just slow down for a few moments? Really, if this bothers you so much you need a hobby.

If she can't put in a parking lot then perhaps she should move her business elsewhere!

Oh come on! If she didn't have her business then you would complain there is nothing for the kids.

What's wrong with parents taking some responsibility with their kids.. Park in front of her house and let the kids out and in on the sidewalk side of their car. No room, drive around and come back..PARENTS take care of your kids!!! The rest of us, can't we just slow down and wait our turn to drive down or up the street...Do we always have to be first?? When something is on our side of the street in front of us, can't we just STOP...Come on people.. Drive with some caution. and not just on the Portage..all the time. Take turns, go slower, watch out for kids, people and animals that might be in the street.. What about the local police sitting in front of the Cross house to help people do what is safe.. put up no parking signs on the side of the road across from her house.. make people park where it's safe...and Marge pass out the rules to your parents... I'm guessing that Marge and the local police can take care of most of the problem...

Why should our tax money pay for pd to sit in front a business that needs to be relocated?

First off..Marge has had her daycare school for quite awhile, and I do know for a fact that 'cars' do go fast down the Portage and all over as far as that goes.
But, drivers need to be a little more 'patient' and SLOW DOWN..

It's not any differnt than being over on Lake George Ave near the High School. Cars are always speeding up & down that road too.

The Police Dept. should put 'undercover' police around the area schools and start picking up these people who are too much in a hurry to go nowhere!!!

I used to live in Ti and I know how people don't care. They feel there above the law..well, maybe they need a few tickets and fines too slow them down.

SOME PEOPLE DO CARE, AND WILL ABIDE BY THE RULES.

I HOPE THE LITTLE GIRL IS ALRIGHT AND THAT SHE FEELS BETTER SOON!

My child attended school there for two years and I always parked with the passengerside on the side walk so I didn't have to get him out in traffic. Really not that hard to accomplish. Plan your travel so you are going north on the portage....
chlren and adults just jump out of their cars on that street and right in front of on coming cars then complain about their speed? obviously you know traffic may be coming and at a pretty good speed ( I can't imagine being hit at 30mph is fun)so, lets plan to be more cautious when jumping out and park so the child never has to cross the road.

a sign or two won't change some of these issues...a schol sign won't stop people from jumping out of their cars or between them with children in tow in front of on coming traffic...even if you are going 10mph being hit can kill someone. Maybe a second sign...showing people that there may be cars on the road to help them stop from jumping out of their parked cars in front of them? got to love this area....

Here is the problem. A child was hit by a car doing the speed limit. The young man that hit her was devastated! Not his fault, the child ran ut in the road. These things happen and we can sit back and throw blame back and forth all day, piss people off, create drama. If you want to sign the damn petition please do, if you don't then don't. But if a couple hundred bucks save a childs life just once; isn't it worth it? How would you feel if it were your child. Not involved with any of this. Just an observation. My kids went thre for dance class and it was an excellent opportunity for them and they loved it. I say put a couple signs up and move on.

Minority children never do learn how to cross the road and unfortunately it carries over into the adults. They will walk right out into traffic with a cell phone stuck to their ear while bounching a basketball. Don't honk at them or ever take their picture, because it will create hostility. The African-american will become very violent and lash out, much like the junkyard dog. Females tend to grow very large and usually have a brood following them which also believe the street is the same as a playground. They do however, learn profane language skills at a very young age.

NYS law does not require school zones on streets to be staffed by local law enforcement.

Because parking lots are not required for businesses in Ticonderoga. Take a look around at the many home-based businesses in Ticonderoga. Then review the current local zoning code.

Actually, without cars parked on one or both sides of the street at that location, the "look & feel" of the road would lead some drivers to go even faster.

On street parking tends to make the driving surface look narrower, thus causing many drivers to instinctively slow down.

At this particular location, on street parking is an asset to safer vehicle speeds. Adding a speed zone on top of that would only increase safety further.

We're talking about a school here not a sandwich shop!
