Since I am not on welfare I really don't know but anyone that I know on assistance does not get computers or internet service on the tax payers monies. Many end up with computers through grandparents, family members and through friends but how they can afford the service is beyond me.But back to the question above most people with jobs aren't on welfare.Yes there is alot of trash on the website but what makes you think they are all on welfare because they talk trash.

They get thier welfare and foodstamps on a card BUT they have the options to get cash back when they use their welfare cards so yes welfare proabably is paying for these things for some people. They also sell the food stamps still by taking the person to the store with them buying their food with the card and the perons gives them cash for it. That means that welfare is probably buying their drugs and crap to, isnt that nice to know that we are paying for all these things? All you welfare bumbs need to get a damn job so I dont have to support you, sit home and complain about the economy when your taking so much money away form it can we say worthless people. GET A JOB!

Some social service agencies do hand out computers. Laptops as a matter of fact. Couldn't tell you which agency(s) specifically, just know of a person who "can't work" so he was awarded with a laptop to use for something based on some "disability" that made him somehow "eligible."

Now, this is merely my opinion, but if someone can comptetently use a computer (purchased with your tax dollars), could there not be employment opportunities for it's use? Data submission? Telemarketing (there's a novel idea.... keep it right here in the good 'ole U S of A...)?

Just a thought.

"TRUTH" How do you know so much about how the FS card works. Makes me wonder. I know a few people who are on welfare and need computers to further their education with online courses at college. Paying for a babysitter these days is outrageous, therefore it is cheaper to sit home and do your education. It makes me wonder if you could possibly be getting that help from the government and too proud to come out. Everyone deserves to have a better eeducation. Do you have kids in school? Regardless if you are on welfare or not, the kids have to have access to resources. Get a grip!!!

if this is none of your business why are you on here. Do you ever take anything into consideration, no vehicle, handicapped, or parents are working. You know there are alot of people who do abuse the system, but why put those down that really need the help and want what is best for their children and themselves. Not all people are bad. Sounds to me like you have no friends therefore that makes you not so intelligent. Find some friends, everyone knows someone tthat gets some type of assistance, you putting those people down too, friends or not. Grow up.

Keepp up the good work, I'm aiming for a big flat screen TV next, get real. Are you telling me that you would starve your kids rather than get help ( yes foodstamps). Please, that would make you a bad parent. Have you looked at the gas prices and the costs of living lately? The government is making it pretty hard for people to live comfortably. I know people who make good money, yet they so not have enough to make ends meat. Those people are not too proud.

what you are talking about is not social services. it is called VESID, this program has nothing to do with soical services. this program lends people computers to help them get on there feet to get a job. Vesid helps disabled people with schooling, and such. they are not given the computers to keep. So, you ask before you jump to conclusions. I for one had a friend that used a comptuer to help her go to college due to her disability she was not able to handle being at the college all the time.

No, it was not VESID. I am quite familiar with VESID and all aspects of the specific disabilities that affect education as well as NYSED programs that help support individuals who require assistance with their education. The person I was referring to was not going to college. The laptop was his to keep. The "disability" I sarcastically put in quotes is not a disability as defined by law through NYSED (or therefore VESID). I'm pretty sure I'm not jumping to conclusions since the information I have came from the horse's mouth.

I most certainly would never have a problem with someone wanting to further their education. And if they truly need assistance because of a legal disability, I'll be the first person to lend a helping hand or dollar. I wish more people would choose that path.

My beef with the situation I was referring to is that if my tax dollars are going to help pay for something for somebody who is extremely able to work (or go to college) then there should be a return effort. At the very least, it should be periodically checked to rule out illegal internet activity. Checks and balances, you know? Just a hunch.

I know this stuff because number one I work in a place where they can get cash back from this card idiot, therefor now you know that I have a job. Number two I know a few people that are abusing our system as we speak and its wrong. I know how they brag about what they do and how they get the things that they have. Maybe I should quit my job and go on welfare, they seem to be able to have a lot more than I can afford! Further more if she needs to sit home on welfare because she has kids 1 maybe she should have thought about that before she got pregnant and 2 maybe she should close her legs before her welfare a$$ makes a couple more so she can continue to use that excuse, and 3 welfare pays for child care so you can work dumb A$$. Just thought that maybe I should let you know how ignorant you really sound on here MORON

If you need assistance its one thing, but most people in our county do not. They do whatever it takes to milk our system for everything they can get. Food stamps are something wonderful for people with children and not a lot of money (by the way they are seperate from welfare cash) I get upset when people either sell the foodstamps on their cards or spend it on stupid crap and their children still go without. There are many many people out there that are not as caring toward their children as you are and it sickens me. I dont aim my comments toward people like yourself that NEED and are not abusing assistance as I dont think any other person on here is. It is meant for the low life scum bags that are just to damn fat and lazy to do anything but sit home and get wider! Sorry for the misunderstanding.

"Hey Truth" Sounds like I may have hit a nerve with something I said, could it be that I said something that was true. FURTHERMORE, if you want to call me names that is fine but really you sound like a child. If I wanted to be called names, I would go back to high school. I understand that people do abuse the system, BUT you are confusing me. Where in my comment did you see me defending those that are abusing the system and when did I even say it was alright to do so? I did not, but here you are downing me because i am sticking up for those who may be getting assistance and wanting to make their lives better. Nowadays, you need a computer to do most things. Am I right? And yes, you are right, I do get foodstamps, but it is not forever. I have four beautiful children and a huusband who works his ass off. I am also enrolled in college fulltime and with a baby at home and the others in school, It does not pay for me to work. Now I am not abusing the system, but we were not always like this. We own our house and have no payments what so ever other than the costs of living shit. I am not too pround to say that my husband had to switch to a lower paying job closer to the house so he can be home and spend time with his family rather than paying out the ass for gas and working 12 hour shifts. I am proud of the dicision we came up with. By the way, my laptop was a gift to me from my family for having high honors in college and still taking care of my family.
