A Queensbury couple is blaming their teenage son's suicide on the allergy drug Singulair. The drug's manufacturer says they've been alerting doctors and pharmacists to the potential for danger, but a NewsChannel 13 investigation reveals the drug maker's notification program, at least in the Capital District, is weak and ineffective, putting allergy sufferers at risk.

Cody Miller was an active 15 year old who took his life on August 4, 2007, just 17 days after starting Singulair for his fall allergies.

Usually he took Allegra but during his back to school physical, his pediatrician made the change. Singulair was FDA approved for treating asthma in February 1998 and in 2003 got the green light to treat seasonal allergy symptoms.

I agree the med should just be takin off the shelf. How many people need to commit suicide before they decide to do it.

blaming medication for suicide is just wrong. a person takes his/her own life because they cannot handle whats going on with their lives.its a cowards way of dealing with reality.i know i am going to get shit over this but i dont care.i have had this situation hit tooooo close to home.
people will try to blame medication so its a way to sue someone for it.

I'm not going to give you shit but I'm going to try to explain to you why this happens. Some medicines when given to teens/adults can cause thoughts of suicide, usually there is an underlying mental health issue, for the sake of this post depression/anxiety. Reading the RX readout and talking to your doctor and learning about some of things that could happen while taking a certain medicine is your best bet.And talking to someone when IF you feel badly before you act on those thoughts is the ONLY to get through that.

There are certain medications that come with warnings of suicide. Once you have that chemical in your body you don't think clearly and may do something that you might not usually do. Believe me, I'm on medication for depression and the side effects are almost as bad as the illness. You have no control over how you act, talk, or feel. Suicide is a definite possibility. It's not a cop-out and it's not an excuse to sue someone, it's the brutal truth. Unless you've experienced it yourself, you aren't qualified to have an opinion.

You speak so clearly on mind altering meds, their fusion to incapacitate and further bewilder an already confused mindset but with certain people these infusions (drugs) can be of benefit. I do not why they seem to ease or belay the struggle in some but heighten the trauma in others, i.e.; my father, now deceased, went through a period of events where Haldol was prescribed (does this sound correct?)--and he literraly needed to be tied down, such were the after shocks and I believe to this day that this supposedly mind calming balm, so to speak, hastened his death. Dealing with ones mind is sooooooooooo a challenge, help from the divine can work wonders and suicide is never an option--talk to Bernie if this wicked thought ever presents itself. Too easy an approach for the devil when it took so much to create you.
