When did *you*(taxpayer) last get a 4 percent raise??

**********

"RAISES

Union employees received 4 percent pay raises for 2011 and 2012, when other county workers were held to no increases.

This year, management-confidential and department heads got 2 percent pay increases, but no raises were budgeted for union workers in an attempt to address the pay differences of the previous two years."

to PAY Attention:
County workers did indeed get these pay raises since they wer negotiated in a union contract. Couty official were involved in those negotiaions and the general membership voted that contract in. If you took the time to read the article it said that the last contract ended 12/31/12. That means that there is NO new contract. The contract was voted down. The county and union negotiating teams will have to meet again to hash out a new contract.
If the new contract was ratified - union county employees would have gotten NO Raises for 2013. YES- NO RAISES.
Read more carefully next time.
Thank you.

Some of us can read. I'm not sure what you are so upset about.

Straight to the heart of the matter--in THIS ECONOMY, no County employees should be getting a raise. We must all live within OUR OWN MEANS. Not on the backs of the taxpayer.

It's quite simple, really. Oh, unless taxes are raised, again...

They can fire case worker(s) who are telling the wife how horrible the husband is...and then, turn around and tell the husband how horrible the wife is. Children! caught in the middle.

Is that even legal to be "advising" a spouse as to what they "should do" about their marriage??
Hmmm...

People the county tax rate is the one of the lowest county tax rates in this country not just the state. Look at what people make in different counties vs Essex county. You could double everyone's pay out there and our tax rate would still be one of the lowest. We get a pretty good deal on the county tax rates.

Spoken like a great politician. What do we receive for our taxes? I am sure the people in charge are warming up to do just this...double our taxes. Look at the job opportunities in this county, the price fo fuel, the price of groceries, the condition of our roads, and the amount of this population on welfare. The solution is not raise taxes on the individual that is working 2-3 jobs and they already are paying more than fair share. The solution is a government that works for the people. I for one now do all of my shopping in Vermont. Lower gas tax and guess what, all shoe and clothing is tax free. What person thought raising the sales tax would bring in more revenue when the VT boarder is 10 mins away from NY? Keeping raising taxes, pretty soon this county will be bankrupt because all the hardworking tax payers are going to be tired of being raked over the coals and they will move out of this county. You will be left with a large population that do not work and rely on the county for food, rent and prescription drugs. Open your eyesand be the leaders the tax payers had hoped you would be.

I heard they were going to gut the county worker's retirement age and threaten to lay people off. funny how palmer quit right before this and now there's a thread about how "easy" the county workers have it. post the chief's salary before squabbling about the indians.

Very well put!

And, yes Essex County has been bleeding out the best and brightest of our young people for decades now. And, of course, everything just gets worse in a prolonged bad economy.

People seem to forget that we cannot live above our means! Yes, there are plenty of people who are working 2 - 3 jobs, IF they can find work. The answer to a budget crisis is NOT to raise taxes on those people so that the public servants can get a raise as though nothing bad is happening in the county, state and nation's economy. What is so difficult about that to understand?!

Other states and counties have implemented salary freezes--it's not a new concept, folks. Perhaps the county should hire a"business manager. Because what "they" are doing now is just not working for the working people.

Illegal

It is illegal in New York State to provide counseling without a license.

It was at the very least unethical and unprofessional behavior.

I would advise this couple, as a couple or as individuals, to definitely file a formal complaint against this worker.
