This is very true. Thank you for an intelligent post.

I also agree that teachers should not be doing the job of social workers, ad hoc. Teachers should be, by law, reporting neglect to the county if children are clearly not being appropriately clothed or fed, etc. It sounds like a community program for needy children would be a great idea!

Teachers are mandated to report neglect and abuse by law.

But, I know of at least one case where a teenage girl told her teacher that her friend's step-father was having an inappropriate "relationship" with his step-daughter and her friends. That teacher told another teacher; and yet, not one called CPS on her behalf.

THAT girl ended up a victim of two local, now-registered sex offenders. You all read about it; it was big news for a while.
