There is a scam on people who list items for sale on craiglist locally (Glenns Falls, Plattburg & Vermont) 1 Screen name being used is "Bryan Cooker"

Scam works like this: They answer an AD to something you have posted. They agree to your price and say they are vaigue about payment. They use the term payment. "Payment has been mailed" And they request you remove the posting. Next day they send an email to you about how the "Payment sent to you was meant for another transaction" To "Deduct The purchase price and western union the difference" Then they say " I would like to think I wont have a problem with you western unioning the difference" They didn't get me.. But the way this scam works someone could be out the merchandise they posted plus the money they collected for it along with the additional 'difference' along with bank fees etc.
Not only did this prick waste my time by trying to scam me but I told 2 people that were legitimate buyers that the merchandise I posted was already sold.

We just got a response to a craigslist post from Bryan Cooker (AKA Coker). He or she is setting up the scam as described above. The email addresses used are: [email protected] and [email protected]
Here how it starts:
"Thanks for the response.I am willing to pay your asking price.I will pay by a money order as its the only way i can pay you at the moment.I will make arrangement for the pickup after payment have been received by you.I don't mind adding an extra $30 so you can keep it in my favor.I would have loved to come take a look at it but i am presently out of town, send me some pictures.Reply with your name, phone # and mailing address where payment will be sent.I will let you know how i intend to pick it up.Please take the posting off craigslist today and consider it sold to me. Expecting to hear from you soon.
Warm Regards."
I think they may be in Canada, but I'm going to try to shut them down.

Right but...that does work out but...with craiglist.... EBAY has gotten SO BAD!!! People bid then dont pay Then you have to go thru a process that EBAY charges you for. YOU havent got a dime for your mechandise then EBAY says send it you'll be paid...if you dont you'll have bad EBAY credit... PEOPLE BID THEN THEY DONT PAY THEN YOU HAVE TO SEND IT TO THEM ANYWAY.

cool thanks you. I just emailed them and said I had second thoughts and am not going to sell the item. I just don't like the idea that t hey have my address. I don't want some person showing up at the house. You know?? I can deal with an asshole trying to steal my money over the phone. I don't want to have to deal with them in real life with my hand gun on my property. The last email I recieved said " i have given my partner the okay to send you payment. Screw it. The item is back on craigslist and they aren't dealing with me any longer thank you...

Kids at home: Instead of sending the item actually paid for by the buyer, try sending a starving wolverine via UPS overnight to the buyer. You can do this 1 out of 30 times and still have a 97 percent good seller rating.

Other email addresses that this comes from are:

[email protected] Fred Stubbs

[email protected] John David

[email protected] John Morris

i listed a couple items at the same time and got three very similar emails from these addresses regarding the listed items.
I thought it was strange.
What a PITA

I have done internet business for 10 years now! Both as buyer and seller. Ebay, Craigslist and other similar sites that specialize. I've had two or three scam attempts as buyer - ALL covered by eBay and PayPal! Even ended up with free merchandise in one instance.
I've bought some from Craigslist. No troubles yet, but many items are sold BUT NOT removed from CL!
I've never sold via Craigslist.
Selling Via eBay is difficult. They ONLY want you to take PayPal now or for most sales. YUK!
I also routinely buy and sell via gunbroker.com . A topnotch site, IMO.
I routinely search Google for all names and email addresses. If there is eben ONE negative hit for the same buyer or seller I do no business with them. If a buyer I block those sellers from my auctions.
But as always, "Caveat Emptor et Caveat Vendor."
