Aside from punching his son in the face, his son deserved a little more than just a slap. The child endangered himself, others, destroyed personal property and ultimately, could have killed someone with the car. It's outrageous that parents aren't allowed to discipline their children. There are always exceptions and instances of abuse, but for those parents like me who learned quickly from a swift swat to the bum from our parents, I say given the boys actions, he should have been locked up, not his father.

I throughly agree..this is absolutely a waste of time, not to mention the strain the family has had to endure. Why did this have to be such a huge media story. It sure made the State's attorney's office look more like they had an agenda rather than any common sense.

20 years ago (I am 33), the police officer or deputy would have provided a chair for the dad to take his boy over his knee. Hell, I remember my dad telling the cop who arrested me to take a few wacks with his belt, which he did.

You can still discipline your kids---you just have to use your brian and not do it right there in front of a cop.

mmm...its a shame you don't know the boy or his father....i do. hes a pretty good boy,i admit he has his times where he doesn't think..,every1 does at 1 point in time they are nice people. this "boy" did deserve what he got and his dad didnt deserve a punishment._______ learned from his mistake and learned it was endangering and he does what he needs to to keep out of trouble. Oh...and by the way he wasnt punched...thats bullsh*t! this shouldn't be a big media epidemic.

Son of an abusive father
|
Punching anyone is a crime. There are healthier ways to discipline one's son. Did any of the bloggers ever think, that any father who punches their son in public, is likely to be much more abusive to their son when not in public? And such abuse may me the very reason his son was misbehaving on the separate issues? Parental abuse in the form of hitting, punching, striking, verbally abusing are not healthy forms of discipline, and only lead to hatred and estrangement between family members.
