My son was recently sent to bowling brook prep and I am trying to find information on the place. I would like to hear from anyone who attended or who had a son, grandson, brother or such sent to the school. I assume it's some sort of boot camp since my son was sent there by his probation officer. What is the general time frame the kids need to stay there? What is required of the kids before they can be released? Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated. My son is 15, first time ever in trouble with the law, was convicted of the lesser charges out of the 4 kids involved but received the harshest punishment. I was told he could be there at bowling brook from 10 months to over a year.

Hello Ms. Sherry, my name is Quaire Miles and I was once a Bowling Brook student. The facility is a wonder place where the students and the staff there want to see you succeed. Bowling offers a wide range of opportunities for which your son will need to live in socity productively. For example, during my stay i earned my Maryland High school dipolmia, my Maryland driver ed certificate, and 15 college credits. I'am now attending Cheyney University in which I am studing Business Management and Accounting courses. So, eventhough i was court commited from Philadelphia, I went to bowling brook a delinquent and came out a man.

Tell your son to listen, behave, and to accept all confrontations. Tell him to try his best to achieve whatever he needs to achieve. But first he needs to refrain from any behavior that can get him into anymore trouble. Your son has to understand that he was not sent to Bowling Brook Prep to get a trade, or a diploma, but first and foremost because he was found involved with a crime and his judge sent him to BBP as an opportunity for him to confront, own, and curb his illegal behavior pattern. If he wants to leave in ten months he must do the program, achieve educationally and programatically. He must set up employment and or schooling before being released.

I attended Bowling Brook Prep from (2001-2002) and I think hands down it was one of the greatest expierences of my life.Things I learned such as the campus creed was not only a creed of honor to be used on campus but it a creed of honor to be used through out life.I learned other values such as team work and commitment and to never give up on my dream of positive success in life.I hope and pray that your son will get as much out of Bowling Brook Prep as I did.Dont look at his time there as incarceration, but look at his time there as maybe the last opportunity he may have to change and find a positive out look on life.Lord knows were I would be with out BBP I thank God for that second chance everyday.

I need to stay anonymous. It looks like BBP is soliciting these comments. A higher percent of the students that leave BBP, are repeat offenders then not. The school was once a closed community with high morals. It is now becoming a warehouse of little concern for the outcome of the student. Students are tracked for one year, if not arrested and convicted in that period of time, they call it a success. BBP is not a secured school and at any time you can walk around the campus, go in and out of buildings with a BBP shirt on and little or nothing would be said to you. It is not a safe place for staff or students.

TAKE YOUR SONS OUT OF BOWLING BROOK. A YOUNG MAN WAS KILLED THERE LAST NIGHT AS A RESULT OF POLICE ABUSE. HE WAS UNCONCIOUS FOR 4 HOURS BEFORE THE HOSPITAL WAS CALLED.... PLEASE REPORT THIS NEWS TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE WITH SONS IN THIS PREP SCHOOL.

You don't know what you are talking about. It wasn't police abuse, police don't run the school. As for everyone who goes there, they are a lot safer there then they were when they were out in the streets in gangs and robberies. Before you talk, make sure that you have the information that will support you. Out of the thousands of students that have attended the program since 1957, the kid was the first to die there. Also, retraints are held just like in any detention center or prison; At the school, staff only restrains when the kid is a threat to those around him or himself. Trust me, I know because I went there, and it changed my whole life around.

Yes, when her kid does deserve the second chance, and as for the spanish staff, there was none when i wnet there. However, there is not that many spanish speaking kids that go there. It has only been in the past couple of months that the school has been recieveing many spanish kids. If you truely care, it is something to discuss with them, not critize them on it. Help, don't hurt.

What are the facts? Everybody has an opinion, some even say they have the facts. Until the investigation is complete what are people hoping to acheive by bad mouthing a school that has proven its success over the years?

Here are the facts. When the two people Mike C. and Paul G. represent the school, in getting students admitted to BBP and they are directly involved, in the restraint and they are the long term employees. They have little training recently in how to deal with the restraining of students. This proves the school is not safe, as I stated this in October 2006. Please see previous comment by myself in October. I apologize for the run on sentences, this is very upsetting and disheartening to people who care about the students and not numbers and money the students are worth to the school. The Board of Directors need to be held responsible for the actions of the school administration and take immediate action to replace everyone who is responsible for the situation. Administration needs to stop repremanding staff that do the right thing and take restraint injured students to the hospital immediately and not have to worry about losing their job.
