In my last 2 visits to the area, I used the Count Gilu motel by the vocational school and it was quite nice.

Do the Hunt's still own the Pocahontas Motel? They once had a tanning bed in there. I lived in North Welch and that is where I went to tan before prom.

FMR, I don't know about the Poca motel, but the Count Gilu is a very comfortable, nice place to stay. The people that own the Count Gilu are very close to my heart.
BTW, good morning, my friend!

I personally know the owner of the Pocahontas and if he maintains the motel like he does his personal life, it should be an excellent place to stay.

I don't know who owns the Poca Motel. I do know that Mr. Hunt's daughter and husband live in North Myrtle Beach and they have a son that is a professional golfer in New York.

I have stayed at the motel recently and it is very nice and clean. The little lady that manages the motel is precious. I have also stayed at the count Foolyou. It is not nice with fake flowers and tacky decor. Not welchs finest. Pocahontas is a very nice motel.
Must be the viewpoint of the one staying there as I found the folks at Count Gilu very friendly, the rooms comfortable and clean and a welcome relief from the usual motel/hotel amenities.

Both stays at Count Gilu were for 5 days so I had a chance to really see for myself how they were. In fact, that is where I would stay again.

Good morning.

As I stated in another post, we have stayed there twice and enjoyed their hospitality. The folks have always been friendly and helpful. The "tacky decor", to me, was a welcome relief from the usual motel/hotel amenities I found on the road.

As for the Pocahontas, I have never stayed there and can't post a qualified assessment of their facility or personnel.

I have worked at the Pocahontas Motel back when Mr. Hunt ran it, it has changed dramatically and when i say that i mean it has improved alot. It has a suite with a hot tub in it & king size bed, very nice. The place is beautiful and i would recommend anyone to stay there, the owner is very nice as well he is a christian and so you know its not a troubled place.

the pocahontas is a really nice motel for mcdowell county. the rooms have been redone. they are up to date and very clean. i had guests come in for my wedding a year ago. i checked the rates and rooms of all the local hotels. i chose the pochontas and the guests were very comfortable. they also have a suite that is very nice with a jacuzzi tub in it. very satisfied!

Thanks everyone for the positve comments. Headed up there in a few months and just wanted a decent place for the family to stay while visiting. As long as its clean and not a "hot" spot, thats what im looking for. Look forward to visiting beautiful WV in the months to come.
